VIRAL MOMENT EVERYONE’S TALKING ABOUT: Donnie Yen Wins the Bottle Cap Challenge

While many people believed that no one would be able to beat actor Jason Statham at the Bottle Cap Challenge, a viral competition in which participants try to unscrew the top of a bottle cap by performing a roundhouse kick, that was before action star Donnie Yen threw his name in the game.

While wearing a red Toronto Raptors t-shirt in the gym, Yen posted the slow-motion video on his Instagram in which the 55-year-old Ip Man film series star not only used an environmentally friendly glass water bottle, he performed the roundhouse kick blindfolded.

The Bottle Cap Challenge was originally started by UFC Champion Farabi Davletchin, but caught fire after Featherweight Champion Max Holloway accepted the challenge, and passed it on to singer John Mayer, who gamely accepted. While Davletchin, Mayer, Holloway and Statham’s videos went viral, after watching Yen gracefully knock off the bottle cap without even being able to see, it was clear the viral competition was now over, and that a champion has been named.

Did the California Earthquake Cause Damage at Disneyland?

Disneyland in Anaheim, California, is up and running following a 6.4 magnitude earthquake. There was no damage reported at the theme park following the quake that shook Southern California on Thursday, July 4, just after 10:30 a.m. local time. Although the earthquake was several miles away from Anaheim, the folks over at Disneyland needed to take the proper precautions to make sure that the attractions were safe for parkgoers.

The quake was the strongest to hit SoCal in 20 years. The center of the quake was located in the Searles Valley. According to the Los Angeles Times, rocking and shaking could be felt as far away as Long Beach and Las Vegas.

Several people at Disneyland said that they felt at last one aftershock following this morning’s quake.

Here’s what you need to know:

Disneyland Took Precautions Following the Earthquake & Shutdown Several Rides to Make Sure Everything Was Running Smoothly

Disneyland

Several rides at Disneyland in Anaheim, California, were closed following an earthquake. Although the 6.4-magnitude quake didn’t cause any major damage to the Anaheim area, several rides were closed for safety inspections and testing as a precaution.

Based on a screenshot taken from the Disneyland app, several rides were “temporarily closed” following the quake. Those rides included Hyperspace Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, the Haunted Mansion, and Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters.

“Several (not all) attractions at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure are temporarily closed/offline due to the earthquake. Inspections normal after seismic activity. Expect impacted rides to reopen soon,” Tribune Media reporter Scott Gustin tweeted along with the screenshot.

Several rides at Six Flags Magic Mountain were also briefly closed for inspection, according to Theme Park Insider.

According to WDW News Today, most of the Disneyland rides have since reopened and the park is operating on a normal schedule.

Disneyland Has Earthquake Protocol & the Last Quake in the Area Was Back in 2014

Unsurprisingly, Disneyland park personnel have a protocol to follow in the event of an earthquake. According to Theme Park Insider, those on rides during a quake will likely experience a sudden stop. It is believed that all of the rides at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure are on sensors and have emergency shutoffs that go into effect if there’s an earthquake.

As for what you should expect if you are at the park and an earthquake hits, Theme Park Insider has some information on that as well.

“Disney cast members might start directing people into ‘safe areas.’ This is to keep people away from overhanging buildings, trees, signs, etc. until they can be inspected. It’s also to help clear the way for other Disney employees, including maintenance workers, to get to attractions where they are needed to help evacuate stranded riders or to inspect rides. Again, just follow the directions from Disney cast members. If everyone would do that, the park would get back to normal operation as quickly as possible,” the website reads.

The last earthquake to affect Disneyland occurred back in March 2014. Rides were closed and fireworks shows were canceled, causing many people to voluntarily leave the parks.

Walt Disney World will be sharing something extra special with the country this July 4th holiday as the fireworks at Magic Kingdom theme park will be available via live stream. So, if you aren’t able to spend your evening at the Happiest Place on Earth, you’ll at least be able to bring a bit of the magic into your living room if you so choose.

The live stream for “Disney’s Celebrate America! A Fourth of July Concert in the Sky” will begin at 9:10 p.m. Eastern. While the Magic Kingdom theme park has a nightly fireworks display, Disney kicks things up a notch on various holidays and tonight will be no different.

“‘Disney’s Celebrate America! A Fourth of July Concert in the Sky’ will offer booming fireworks orchestrated to patriotic melodies at Magic Kingdom Park,” according to the Disney Parks website. The show was also in full effect on July 3 for park guests who were visiting ahead of the holiday.

Here’s what you need to know:

Thousands of Guests Are Celebrating America’s Birthday at Disney’s Orlando Theme Parks

It’s a hot July day in Orlando, Florida, but that didn’t stop thousands of people from celebrating America’s birthday at the parks. Walking through Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom, flurries of red, white, and blue covered parkgoers’ clothing in various tributes to the U.S.A.

Thousands of people were at each park today, many of whom will be crowding into Magic Kingdom to catch the stunning fireworks display that will light up the night sky behind Cinderella Castle shortly after 9 a.m. local time. People at the parks start lining up for the fireworks about an hour or so before the show begins.

If you are watching from home, you have the benefit of air conditioning — and elbow room.

Epcot Will Also Have a Fireworks Show But it Will Not Be Available via Live Stream

Disney World

Disney fans who are at Epcot will also get to see a special nighttime spectacular. “The Heartbeat of Freedom” fireworks add-on will begin immediately following the 9 p.m. “IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth” display.

“Illuminations” is officially ending on September 30, 2019, so parkgoers catching tonight’s display will be the last ones to see this particular patriotic Fourth of July grand finale. Once the new fireworks show is in place, a finale for special occasions will more than likely be created as an add-on to the nightly displays.

Similar nighttime shows will take place at Disneyland in California. On July 4, “Disney’s Celebrate America! – A Fourth of July Concert in the Sky” will light up the night sky at the Anaheim-based theme park.

Disney Will Share Vacation Photos From Guests Who Upload a Pic With a Special Hashtag

Disney World

Disney is doing something a little extra special for tonight’s live stream. Photos from parkgoers and Disney aficionados will be shown during the live stream. If you have a photo that you’d like featured during the broadcast, you will want to upload it to Twitter and use the hashtag #DisneyParksLIVE.

Cameron Boyce, the 20-year-old Disney Channel star, has died, according to ABC News. Heartbroken and shocked fans and co-stars have taken to social media to mourn the passing of the vibrant, beloved actor of such Disney shows as Jessie and Descendants.

The actor Adam Sandler, who starred with Boyce in the 2010 movie Grown Ups, spoke for many when he wrote: “Too young. Too sweet. Too funny.”

“Just the nicest, most talented, and most decent kid around. Loved that kid. Cared so much about his family. Cared so much about the world. Thank you, Cameron, for all you gave to us. So much more was on the way. All our hearts are broken. Thinking of your amazing family and sending our deepest condolences.”

The tragic news broke in the early morning hours of July 7, 2019. According to the Blast, Boyce’s death has left fans in shock because people didn’t know he was facing an illness. Fans quickly filled social media and Boyce’s Instagram page with tributes despite the early morning hour as the news spread. Many mentioned his potential or how they grew up watching him. “…cameron boyce, the boy I grew up laughing at on grown ups and disney channel, is now gone. it’s still so difficult for me to register this whole thing,” wrote one distraught fan on Twitter.

Another fan explained: “I don’t think adults would understand this as much as we do, we practically grew up with him, we watched him everyday on our TVs…we watched him grow up. and to see him die, that’s a different level of sadness.”

In March 2019, Boyce had given an interview with the site, Dazed, in which he discussed how he wanted his roles to be seen. “It’s important to show (characters) from every walk of life so people can say, ‘I can do that too,’ and feel like their existence is acknowledged,” he said in that interview, seemingly with everything to live for.

Here’s what you need to know:

Cameron Boyce’s family – which includes his mother, father, and sister – confirmed the sad news of his death to ABC News.

“We are utterly heartbroken and ask for privacy during this immensely difficult time as we grieve the loss of our precious son and brother,” a family spokesperson said Saturday.

Boyce’s death comes at a time when his career was taking off and he was branching out into an indie role in a thriller called Runt, in which he played “a neglected teen pulled into a cycle of violence,” according to Dazed.

“This was the first time that someone had reached out to me and instantly believed in me, without any proof that I could handle the weight of the role. I’ve done a lot of work but it’s been a lot of Disney stuff, and a lot of children’s stuff, so the fact that someone was like ‘no I totally believe that you can do this,’ was empowering,” he told the publication, seemingly looking to the future.

Boyce’s Jessie co-star Skai Jackson wrote a heartbreaking tribute to Boyce on Instagram: “I don’t even know where to start… I am at a loss for words,” she wrote. “I never thought in a million years I would be writing this. Cam, you were one of a kind. My heart will be forever broken. I am so happy that I got to spend almost everyday with you on set, you gave the best hugs. I wish I would have hugged you tighter when I saw you a couple of months ago. Thank you so much for being the big brother I never had… I am so distraught and I cannot stop crying! I love you so much… fly high 👼🏼 💔😢 Gods best angle (sic).”

Cameron Boyce was from a family of Caribbean, African, and Jewish heritage. Boyce discussed his ethnicity to Raw.

“Oh man. Your guess is as good as mine,” he said. “I’m a lot of different European. I know my grandfather is from the Caribbean. And my grandmother is… You know, I’m sure they both have lineage in Africa because I’m black. I like to say that I’m bl-ewish, I’m black and I’m Jewish. So you know, me and Drake, we got that in common.” His mother worked as a health worker on skid row, and his grandmother was involved in the civil rights movement. As a result, Boyce himself gave back to society, becoming involved in charity work.

“A humanitarian, Boyce is actively involved in various philanthropic endeavors and has been particularly outspoken for Thirst Project, a non-profit organization that provides awareness for the global water crisis. Last year, Boyce launched a campaign on his birthday that raised more than $27,000 to build two wells in Swaziland and continues to actively advocate on their behalf,” his Disney bio reads.

2. Boyce Died From a Seizure & His Family Says His Spirit ‘Will Live on,’ Reports Say

GettyCameron Boyce

Whenever someone dies so young, people want to know how it happened. In this case, according to The Blast, Cameron Boyce died of a seizure from what was described as an ongoing illness.

The illness was not disclosed. “The world is now undoubtedly without one of its brightest lights, but his spirit will live on through the kindness and compassion of all who knew and loved him,” his family told ABC.

In a statement to ABC News, the Disney Channel also mourned Cameron Boyce, saying, “From a young age, Cameron Boyce dreamed of sharing his extraordinary artistic talents with the world. As a young man, he was fueled by a strong desire to make a difference in peoples’ lives through his humanitarian work. He was an incredibly talented performer, a remarkably caring and thoughtful person and, above all else, he was a loving and dedicated son, brother, grandson and friend.”

“We offer our deepest condolences to his family, cast mates and colleagues and join his many millions of fans in grieving his untimely passing. He will be dearly missed.”

Descendants director Kenny Ortega offered a tribute.

“Cameron, You left a big piece of your heart for those of us who knew and loved you in this life and you left with a big piece of our hearts today. We will continue to carry your loving spirit forward. You are our forever boy,” Ortega wrote on Instagram. “In your short time on this earth you lit it up with your incomparable talent and goodness. I will be forever grateful to have known and worked with you. Thank you for sharing your amazing gifts with us all. God Bless you and may God watch over your Incredible and loving Family during this difficult time. Only Love.”

3. Boyce, Who Died in His Sleep, Recently Said He’d Grown More Spiritual

cameron boyce

Macy Lillard, Cameron Boyce and Jazzy Satten speak onstage at WE Day California at The Forum on April 25, 2019 in Inglewood, California.

The Blast reported that, according to Boyce’s family, he “passed away in his sleep due to a seizure which was a result of an ongoing medical condition for which he was being treated.”

The family statement to The Blast continued: “It is with a profoundly heavy heart that we report that this morning we lost Cameron.”

In the Dazed interview, Boyce discussed the concept of karma. “I wouldn’t necessarily say a practice, but recently I’ve gotten way more spiritual than I ever have been,” he said. “I’ve never been particularly religious but I have recently acknowledged the universe and it’s crazy powers, and that will probably fluctuate for the rest of my life. But I believe in a lot of things that you hear, I believe in karma, I believe that things happen for a reason. I believe that if you put an energy out into the universe, you’ll receive it back.”

Boyce’s charitable instincts may have derived in part by the example set by his grandmother, Jo Ann Boyce, who was involved in the civil rights movement. Boyce’s Disney Channel bio mentions Jo Ann Boyce.

“In 2017, Boyce received a Daytime Emmy Award with Disney XD for ‘Outstanding Promotional Announcement’ in conjunction with his participation in their series ‘Timeless Heroes—Be Inspired,’ honoring Black History Month,” the bio reads. “He appeared alongside his grandmother Jo Ann Boyce, who was one of the famed Clinton 12, one of 12 black teens who were first to integrate into public school in Clinton, Tennessee.”

Jo Ann is the mother of Boyce’s dad, who told the website LABC of her: “My mom never made a big deal about her involvement with the Clinton 12, but she was always a huge advocate for education and also inclusion. It’s interesting to me that despite the hatred she endured from white Southerners in the ’50s, I’ve never heard my mom speak badly of white people. In fact, she taught us to be respectful of all people. She leads by example, and I think I’m a better person for it.” Boyce’s mother also showed her son the virtues of public service; she is a social worker who does homeless outreach work in Los Angeles.

“When your Nana is a civil rights legend, you tag along to important events where she’s recognized, and take 8,000 pictures of her,” Cameron once wrote on Instagram of his grandmother. “Yesterday the Tennessee State Museum opened its doors. In the ‘Tennessee Transforms’ section, they recognize the Clinton 12, the FIRST group of African Americans to desegregate an all white school in the south. She changed the WORLD. I love her and you should too. ❤️❤️❤️❤️”

4. In Addition to His Disney Work, Cameron Boyce Was a Voice Actor & Starred in Movies With Major Stars

Boyce could be heard voicing the character of Jake on the Disney Junior animated show, “Jake and the Neverland Pirates.” According to ABC News, Cameron Boyce was from Los Angeles, California.

The network says he made his showbiz debut at the tender age of 9 in a horror movie called Mirrors. He also acted with Adam Sandler in the movie Grown Ups before moving on to Disney Channel fame.

On the Disney show Jessie, he played Luke Ross.

According to his Disney Channel biography, Cameron Boyce was “Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, and dubbed an old soul by many who have encountered him, it’s no surprise that Cameron Boyce possesses an all-encompassing appreciation for the arts. His love of performing began in a dance studio, which then transitioned him into commercials, and not long after television and film.”

“Boyce has graced screens both big and small,” the bio reads, “starring alongside the likes of Kiefer Sutherland in ‘Mirrors,’ Shia LaBeouf in ‘Eagle Eye,’ and Adam Sandler in ‘Grown Ups’ and ‘Grown Ups 2.’ Other credits include CBS’ ‘Code Black,’ Disney Channel’s ‘Jessie,’ as well as Disney XD’s ‘Gamer’s Guide to Pretty Much Everything,’ which saw the best series debut in Disney XD’s 15-year history.”

Dove Cameron has more than 26 million followers on Instagram. Her July 6 post received more than 1.4 million likes since it was first posted.

On Saturday evening, comments on the post were filled with congratulatory, uplifting messages to Cameron after a job well done. However, in the overnight hours and throughout much of the day today, the comments have shifted. Many Instagram users are leaving heartbreaking messages about Cameron Boyce.

“Sending you love and healing,” wrote actress Rachel Zegler.

“So sorry Dove. This is hard [as] a fan, but harder as a friend. I know it seems impossible but on [days] when you think of him, only joy will be there for the fun times. But first the tears. You are amazingly strong and beautiful inside and out. And you have a world of friends crying with you and praying for you! We love you,” wrote an Instagram user.

“My condolences,” read another, more simple message, this one with the broken-heart emoji.

Other actors who were close to Boyce have also been getting similar comments on their Instagram posts. Actress Debby Ryan, for example, shut her Instagram comments off on a few of her posts.

Brenna D’Amico Pays Tribute to Cameron Boyce on Instagram

Brenna D’Amico has paid tribute to Cameron Boyce following his tragic death. Boyce died on Saturday, July 6, after suffering a seizure in his sleep. The seizure was caused by an “ongoing medical condition,” according to Boyce’s family.

On Sunday afternoon, D’Amico took to Instagram to pay tribute to Boyce.

“I don’t have the words right now. All I can say now is that he had so much more to do and so much more to give. He was amazing in so many ways. I will miss him forever. My heart goes out to his mom, dad, sister, and everyone who loved him so so much,” she captioned the pic.

Here’s what you need to know:

D’Amico and Boyce met back in 2015 when they were both cast in Disney Channel’s Descendants. In the television movie, D’Amico played the role of Jane and Boyce played the role of Carlos. It is believed that the two became friends — at the very least.

There have been several rumors that D’Amico and Boyce dated for two years, but he previously denied those rumors.

“I’m dating five people. I’m dating [Dove], I’m dating Sofia [Carson], I’m dating Sofia’s sister [Paulina], I’m dating Brenna [D’Amico], I’m dating Sophie [Reynolds], I’m dating everyone and I’m dating none of them,” he told TOPPtube in a 2017 interview.

D’Amico & Boyce Co-Starred in ‘Descendants 3’ Which Will Be Released on August 2

Cameron Boyce

D’Amico is best known for her role in Descendants. She starred in the first film in 2015 and reprised her role as Jane in 2017 for the second film. She and Boyce recently filmed Descendants 3, which is slated for release on Friday, August 2, on the Disney Channel.

“The teenage son of the king and queen of Auradon offers the trouble-making children of villains a chance to attend prep school in the kingdom,” reads a description of the first Descendants movie on IMDb. The movies are extremely popular with elementary-school-aged kids.

The films also star actresses Dove Cameron, Sarah Jeffery, and Keegan Connor Tracy.

Keegan Connor Tracy shared a touching tribute to Boyce on Sunday as well.

“Darling, sweet Cameron. I find this news unfathomable, that a brilliant light such as yours could be gone. I think immediately of your beautiful smile, your infectious energy and your absolutely boundless talent. You, the baby of the crew, so young they were forever pumpkining you out for ‘fake Carlos’. To have watched you spin your way through these years with kindness and humility and just begin to come into your own…it is cruel and ugly to see that taken away. I send an ocean of love to your family with whom you were so close and who must be drowning in heartache. As a mother, I simply cannot comprehend. It is small comfort that at least you shone more brightly in your few years than most do in a lifetime. Dance through the stars, keep shining. I just still cannot believe,” she captioned an Instagram photo.

Several other celebs have also paid tribute to Boyce. Some of his closest friends have not yet posted about his passing, however, perhaps because it’s simply too overwhelming.

Debby Ryan Changed Her Instagram Photo Hours After Cameron Boyce’s Death

Debby Ryan has not yet commented on the death of her former Jessie co-star Cameron Boyce. The actress has been silent on social media since news broke that the 20-year-old actor died following a seizure. However, on Sunday evening, Ryan changed her Instagram profile photo and some fans believe that she did so in honor of Boyce.

Ryan did not comment on anything nor did she make any kind of announcement about the photo. She simply made the change several hours after news of Boyce’s death was first reported.

In addition to changing her profile photo, Ryan shut the comment function off on her four most recent posts, likely because she was getting inundated with comments about Boyce.

Here’s what you need to know:

Ryan Swapped out Her Instagram Profile Photo From a Picture of Herself to Something That Looks Like the Sky

Debby Ryan Instagram

Up until about an hour ago, Debby Ryan’s profile photo on Instagram was a snapshot of herself. However, she changed her profile picture, as you can see in the screenshot above, to a very light background that appears to show some clouds in the sky.

While social media users aren’t 100 percent certain what Ryan’s profile picture is of or what the meaning behind it might be, it seems obvious that she chose the photo in honor of Boyce.

The picture looks blurry but clouds on the horizon can be made out. In many ways, the photo looks heavenly.

Interestingly, Ryan did not change her photo on her verified Facebook account (which she hasn’t used since January). Ryan likewise did not change her photo on Twitter either. Ryan has been active on Twitter and keeps her 4+ million followers in the loop, posting frequently on the micro-blogging platform. She most recently retweeted a few things about the California earthquake on July 6.

“Grateful for another year of photos and videos of fireworks to never look at,” she tweeted on the July 4 holiday.

Only a few Fans Noticed Her Profile Photo Changed

Debby Ryan

Fans have been busy commenting on Ryan’s Instagram photos all day. While many have been begging her to release a statement about Boyce, some took a moment to point out that they noticed she had changed her profile photo.

The comments are popping up on a June 23 Instagram post, which is Ryan’s most recent Instagram post on which the comment function has not been disabled. The post is a photo of Ryan and her mom wearing custom bracelets that read “mother” and “daughter.’

“Anyone noticed her insta pic changed?” one Instagram user wrote.

“Did you change your profile pic to the sky with that glow for cam? Because if so that’s so sweet,” commented another.

As for why Ryan hasn’t commented publicly on Boyce’s death, fans assume that she’s mourning privately, as this is an overwhelming loss. Fans are looking forward to reading a statement from Ryan if/when she feels ready to post one.

Eagles Fans Remember ‘The Garbage Picking Field Goal Kicking Philadelphia Phenomenon’

Did you ever hear about the garbageman who made the Philadelphia Eagles roster and won them the last game of the season? No, not Vince Papale. He was a bartender and that was a true story. This was the very fictional story of Barney Gorman.

Gorman, portrayed by actor Tony Danza, plays a field-goal kicker for the Eagles and gives one of the most inspiring speeches ever made in the history of cinema, maybe in the history of sports. Seriously, this speech could be translated and used in real-life situations. If you’ve never seen the movie, check it out.

It’s called Garbage Picking Field Kicking Philadelphia Phenomenon and for some reason, it became a topic of conversation on Reddit late Wednesday afternoon. In the 1998 Disney film, Danza fires up his Eagles teammates at halftime in the team’s final regular-season game. Heavy.com took the liberty of transcribing the entire speech. It’s powerful stuff. Enjoy!

“You call yourselves Philadelphia Eagles? I’ve been an Eagles fan my whole life. You don’t look like Philadelphia Eagles. You look like a bunch of stockbrokers in helmets. You know with all the money and special treatment we get, it’s easy to forget what this game is all about. I know. I got caught up in it, too. We have a tradition to keep here. We’re the Philadelphia Eagles, not the Los Angeles whoevers. This team is bigger than you and me. It’s bigger than all of us because we come and go but those fans, those fans out there, they stay. And that’s what this team is all about.

“You know, my dad is out there, in those stands today. He’s been an Eagles fan for 70 years. If the Eagles lose on Sunday, you can’t even talk to him until Wednesday and there’s a million other people just like him. The Eagles game is the best three hours they get — it gets them through the rest of the week. And they would love a chance to win the big game but they’ll never get the chance. They are the cops, the bus drivers, the butchers, that’s who we’re playing for.

“Are you guys going to let them down? Well, are you? [No, no, no] Are you? [No, no, no] So let’s go out there and win one for the hard-working people of Philadelphia.”

Tony Danza

Liu Yifei: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

$

Chinese-American actress Liu Yifei, officially became an international star after nabbing the titular role of Disney’s live-action remake of the movie, Mulan. The 31-year-old actress born in Wuhan, China, lived in Queens, New York from the age of 10 to 14, but returned to China to enroll at the Beijing Film Academy.

While excitement for the new Mulan film hit a fever pitch after Disney released the first official trailer in July, there’s since been a massive strike for the film’s support after Yifei shared her thoughts on the protests happening in Hong Kong. Tweeting to her 65 million followers on Weibo, which is a Chinese social media platform similar to Twitter, in which she seemingly voiced support for Hong Kong’s brutal violence against protestors, the hashtag #BoycottMulan started to trend online, and has gained traction stateside.

Here’s what you need to know about Liu Yifei….

1. Yifei Said, ‘I Support Hong Kong’s Police, You Can Beat Me Up Now’

Sharing a Chinese propaganda image originally released by People’s Daily Yifei wrote, “I support Hong Kong’s police, you can beat me up now,” and “what a shame for Hong Kong,” a day after the UN Human Rights office accused the Hong Police of “employing less-lethal weapons in ways that are prohibited by international norms and standards,” which thereby create “a considerable risk of death or serious injury.”

The protest in Hong Kong have raging on since June, and the police have been documented firing tear gas and rubber bullets directly at protestors. Sharing photos of injured citizens of Hong Kong, users online couldn’t help but mention how Yifei’s statements to stand in complete opposition of the feminine hero she’s portraying on-screen. One tweet read, “Liu Yifei, you are the MULAN ACTRESS how come you support POLICE BRUTALITY IN HONG KONG, ESPECIALLY TOWARDS WOMEN?”

2. She was Nominated for China’s Worst Actress Three Times

Prior to the Mulan protests, Yifei was nicknamed in China as “fairy sister” for her angelic looks, and grouped into what knows as the “Four New Dan Actresses.” While the term used to refer to male actors who portray young women in the Peking Opera, it has since changed to refer to the country’s most popular young actresses. Notable previous credits of Yifei includes the TV series Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils, and played protagonist Xiaolongnu in The Return of the Condor Heroes. Her film resume includes The Forbidden Kingdom, Outcast, and The Four movie trilogy.

Despite her success, on Douban, which is China’s equivalent to IMDb, Yifei was nominated as the country’s worst actress in 2012, 2013, and 2016. Much of her criticism stems from the opinion that she’s one note actress who doesn’t show emotion. Jin Yong, who wrote the martial-arts novels for the Condor series said of her casting, “Ms. Liu looks pretty, but she is afraid of being ugly, and she doesn’t dare make facial expressions.”

3. Yifei Is Also a Professional Singer

While Yifei started acting and modeling at a very young age, she also had a professional singing career. Signed with Sony Music Entertainment, Yifei released a Chinese-language self-titled album in 2006, which followed her Japanese-language album. One of her singles, “Mayonaka no Doa,” was picked to be the theme song for the Japanese anime series, Powderpuff Girls Z. She is also a classically trained pianist.

Yifei appears to have put her music career on hold in lieu of her acting career and martial arts training, which has been a requirement for most of her recent film credits, including Mulan, which is set to be released on March 27, 2020.

4. She Took Her Mother’s Maiden Name After Parents’ Divorce

Yifei’s parents divorced while she was 10 years old, and afterward, she chose to take her mother’s maiden name. Liu Xiaoli used to be a dancer and stage performer, and Yifei credits her mother for her upbringing. Yifei and her mom are big cat lovers, and together they work with a non-profit which helps felines find new homes.

An Shaokang, her father was a professor at Wuhan University, where he taught French. He later worked at the Chinese embassy in Paris after joining the diplomatic corps. In 2017, Yifei’s father became the dean of The Confucius Institute of Paris Diderot University.

5. Her Godfather is one of China’s Richest People

Listed by Forbes as one of China’s richest 500 people, is Chen Jinfei, Yifei’s godfather. As the Chairman of Beijing Tongchan Investment Group, he has an estimated net worth of $62 million.

As per custom at D23, Sunday becomes a theme park spectacle when the much awaited Disney Parks presentation gets underway. The 2019 addition is no different when it comes to fun, surprises, and a few announcements that fans were expecting. Here’s a rundown of everything you need to know if you missed the big event.

The Avengers Are Coming

Artist Image Of Disney Parks Avengers Attraction

An artist concept of Disney Parks Avengers attraction as revealed during the D23 panel.

Marvel is finally making its way to Disney Parks with what appears to be an ambitious international themed Avengers Campus. Opening in 2020, the California Adventure version of this attraction focuses on immersive experiences with The Avengers’ most popular characters. Guests will be recruited into the next generation of superheroes as they meet Doctor Strange, Black Widow, Ironman, Star-Lord, Gamora, Groot, Black Panther, Thor, and Loki.

Artist Concept of Disney Parks Spiderman Ride

Disney reveals their new concept art for an upcoming Spider-Man ride during D23.

Two new attractions highlight Avengers Campus as Spider-Man gets the honor of starring in the area’s first full ride. Guests visit WEB (Worldwide Engineering Brigade) during an open house for the public. Among the young inventors there, Peter Parker has some interesting inventions he wants to show off; one is the Web Slinger vehicle, the other is escaped Spiderbots that are far from ready for their debut. As guests take a test drive in the Slinger vehicle, they must join Spider-Man to save the day while the Spiderbots cause chaos.

A new E-Ticket ride was also announced during the panel. Details are sketchy on what it will be, but there were a few breadcrumbs thrown out to the audience. Everyone on the ride will visit Wakanda and fight with The Avenges on what promises to be a new ride system designed just for this purpose. Expect the ride to be revealed during the promised Phase 2 of the Avengers Campus.

Disneyland Paris will also be getting in on the action with a campus of their own as well as an updated hotel with Marvel art and themed suites. Meet and greet opportunities with Avengers favorites will also be on hand at both the hotel and the park.

Epcot As You Know It Is Changing

Artist Rendering Of Epcot After New Additions

DisneyA new plan for Epcot was revealed at the 2019 D23 Expo.

The Magic Of Possibility is a new slogan for the park’s transformation. Instead of the current design, guests will encounter four neighborhoods: World Showcase, World Nature, World Discovery, and World Celebration.

Celebration will feature an updated version of the original fountain as well as a revamped Spaceship Earth. The latter attraction is scheduled to include new scenes, a new guide called the Story Light, and a few other surprises yet to be revealed.

Artist Concept Of Spaceship Earth at Epcot

Spaceship Earth is still a major part of Epcot in this artist concept.

Discovery is where Marvel finds its way into the park. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is the park’s first reverse launch coaster and features all of the film’s characters in a new adventure. Space 220 also arrives with a one-of-a-kind dining experience that coincides with rides such as Mission Space. Guests are “transported” to space for a dinner experience that offers a realistic experience and unforgettable views.

Nature presents a more conservationist mentality among the new theme park attractions. The biggest addition to this area is a Moana themed trail highlighting concepts featured in the film. Guests who take the walk will learn about water’s importance to all life and how its cycle affects who all.

World Showcase also wants in on the attractions with the announcement of Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure. Guests will be shrunk down to the size of the famous Pixar character when the ride opens in 2020. In the UK, Mary Poppins makes her long awaited debut in Disney Parks as the pavilion is set to include a replica of Cherry Tree Lane.

Star Wars Gets a Hotel

An Artist Concept of Disney's Galactic Cruiser Halcyon

Disney reveals their much hyped Star Wars hotel in this D23 artist concept.

Galactic Starcruiser Halcyon is welcoming aboard passengers(guests) for its two night cruises into space. The hotel is fully themed with an immersive experience that insets passengers into their own adventure. Among the itinerary, visitors to the hotel experience being blasted into space via pods, venture into the world of a working cruiser complete with alien crew, face off against enemies, and visit the port of Batuu. No word on the opening date, but it appears to be closer than previously thought based on current renderings and information.

Brand New Looks at Runaway Railway and Rise of the Resistance

While the announcements of Runaway Railway and Rise of the Resistance are nothing new to Disney fans, any new information on the ride’s progress has been slow in coming. Bob Chapek, Chairman of Parks, Experiences and Products, updated details on both attractions during the panel.

Proposed Look For Runaway Railway Attraction

A proposed entrance to the new Runaway Railway ride at Disneyland.

Runaway Railway has a twist that even the chairman himself refuses to give away, but the biggest news concerning the ride comes from new glimpses of both Disneyland and Disney Hollywood Studios buildings that house the Mickey Mouse themed ride. Once home to The Great Movie Ride, Disney Hollywood Studios’ Chinese Theatre is getting an overhaul as it expects more traffic from guests. It appears to keep the original look with only slight updates in styling and signage.

Scene From Rise of the Resistance Ride at Disney World

Rise of the Resistance at Disney Parks promises an up-close experience with AT-ATs.

While Smuggler’s Run has been open since day one of Galaxy’s Edge, Rise of the Resistance is more of a mystery for those brave enough to venture into Batuu. Panel attendees got a chance to view a bit more from the ride during a Galaxy’s Edge promotional video as the newest park opens its second location. The thrilling clips promise more of an immersive experience as riders come face to face with key villains from the franchise.

New Additions to Asian Parks

Artist Concept of Disney Parks Zootopia

Zootopia is one of the new lands coming to Shanghai Disneyland.a

Disney’s Asian parks also got two major updates. Shanghai Disney will have its 8th themed land as Zootopia joins the theme park. In addition to entertainment, dining experiences, and merchandise-the land will be home at least one new attraction that combines the film’s motif with cutting edge technology.

Hong Kong Disney will get a Frozen land based on the blockbuster film. A coaster called Wandering Oaken’s Sliding Sleighs takes riders through a slippery journey across ice and snow. Epcot’s popular Frozen Ever After also comes to the park and should follow the original ride’s design.

‘Star Wars Resistance’ Season 2 Preview

A trio of executive producers; Justin Ridge, Brandon Auman, and Athena Portillo, talked to io9 about the the second season and how it sets up the upcoming live-action film, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

“Season two is the opportunity to move into different planets, explore new characters, new creatures and all the conflict that season one left behind,” said Portillo. “Now you have to try to figure out how to resolve that conflict. The platform doesn’t have food. It’s running out of fuel, constantly being chased after the First Order. So we have the opportunity to tell those stories in season two and I can’t wait for everybody to see that.”

“[With] season one you have to set up the characters [and] there’s a lot of worldbuilding,” Ridge added. “Now that we are more familiar with the characters we can dive in deeper, so you get a little more information about the different people on the platform and such… It’s bittersweet for us because we want to see these characters live on. But we felt that this was a really nice conclusion that fits in between Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker.”

Christopher Sean, who provides the voice for Kaz, said that he’s excited for fans to see season two. “It’s been such a joyous ride let me tell you,” he gushed. “This show, the team, the cast, the crew, everyone is amazing and to be honest, being rooted in the sequel trilogy and with the Rise of Skywalker ending in December, it just seems to be the perfect place for the series end. But I’m so excited because everything about season two is so good…[We] really developed the characters in the first season and now we…just develop the adventure.”

Award Winning Director Noel Braham Talks Micheaux Film Festival & Best Advice Received From Peter Jackson

Meet award-winning director Noel Braham.

Originally from Miami, Florida, but grew up in a middle-class family based in Atlanta, Georgia. He attended Georgia State University, where he majored in film and video production and speech communication. Focusing his time on studying the art of storytelling through film.

After graduating with his degree, Braham decided to relocate to New York City to work for NBC. However, not too long after arriving, he decided to leave the media giant to pursue a full-time career in film. His passion for comedy, science fiction, and drama led him to the creation of his first project, “The Side Chick.” It would later be nominated for seven awards by the LA Web Fest and won four awards.

The recognition came after the project was screened at Warner Brothers Studios, which, according to his IMDB page, is the first time in history a web series was publicly shown on a major studio lot.

He would later go on to create films such as “The Millennial” and “Star Wars Exile” which won best VFX and best choreography in the Disney/ Lucas Fan Film Awards. He also is the founder and co-director of the Micheaux Film Festival, which is a multi-cultural film festival, that provides a platform and showcases diverse storytelling of filmmakers and artists from all backgrounds and walks of life.

Landon Buford:  You directed, wrote, and produced the short film “WatchTower.” Can you share with us what inspired the idea in the first place?

Absolutely! While working on my second piece, “The Millennial” which follows an amateur boxer, who reflects on the trial and tribulations from his past with his fiancé and their relationship. I had a production assistant, who worked on my set, depict the production budget being limited.

My production assistant was such a pleasure to work with and by the end of the shoot, I wanted to give him a ride home. He was initially reluctant, but I insisted on dropping him off at his house. Before we pulled out the parking lot he shared with me that he was homeless. The ironic thing is that he lived in a tent community that was two blocks away from where my old apartment was located.

Even more, ironically, I decided to downsize my living arrangements to help self-fund the film “The Millennial.” I was renting a $500 bed in a roach-infested hostel to fund the project, to compensate my crew, and to get us through the post-production. The situation inspired me to shine more light on the homeless epidemic in Los Angeles, and that is how “Watchtower” came about.

Landon Buford: When can we expect this to make its debut this year?

It is currently out on my website, but I am looking for a major outlet to pick it up and distribute it. The project has been nominated for two Day-time Emmy Awards. I was nominated for Outstanding Directing Special Class, and it was also nominated for Outstanding Special Class Short Format Daytime Program.

Landon Buford: Who are some of the directors that you study in your free time?

Matty Rich, he directed a project called  ‘Straight out of Brooklyn,’ and was 18 or 19 years old at the time. He was able to get into the Sundance Film Festival. Another person is Ernest Dickerson, who directed Juice and was Spike Lee’s Director of Photography. He also worked on a variety of shows such as Burn Notice, Dexter, and Law & Order.

Landon Buford: You have been seen in several visuals with Oscar Award Winner Jamie Foxx. Is there a project that we can expect from the two of you?

Not at this present moment. I know Foxx through a mutual contact, who invited me over to his house.  He is a down to earth cat.

Landon Buford: How do you think you have grown since your first project, “The Side Chick” to now?

Oh man tremendously, it is crazy when I started working on “The Side Chick,” which was a new media series that follows a guy that is desperately in love with a girl who could care less about him because she only cares about her own personal gain. Instead of the girl playing the role, which is something we have seen so many times.  It was more interesting to see the guy play the side chick. When you direct, write and produce obviously it can be a complicated process because there are so many details that you have to consistently be aware of. I have been able to fine-tune those details I didn’t consider in the past.

Landon Buford: When you first found out that your project “Star Wars Exile” would be judged by “Rogue One” Director Gareth Edwards. What was going through your mind at the time?

I thought it was incredible he is an established director that has been able to make considerable contributions to the community. And for him to take the opportunity to look at my hard work, the teams’ hard work, and what we have been able to do. That is something that is truly an honor.

Landon Buford: You are a content creator and aware of the struggle that it brings in order to build your brand. What was the best advice that you received from a mentor of yours, and who was it?

I had a conversation with Peter Jackson one time, I am not going to say he is a mentor. It took him an entire year to shoot his direct his first and he would only shoot on the weekends because the budget was limited.

He told me to get out there and make it happen, and when I was filming “The Millennial,” I made it happen by downgrading my living situation to complete the project. A question that I get a lot is, how are you funding your projects? It comes down to two things, saving and sacrificing. That is something that people don’t fundamentally always want to do. Jackson’s advice was to get out there and make it happen by any means, and it clearly resonated.

Landon Buford: What is some advice that you would like to pass down to aspiring creatives out there?

If you have been given a vision or an opportunity of who you can become you need to remain focused and believe in the journey that will have to endure. No one becomes successful unintentionally; it is an intentional act to accomplish. You have to distance yourself from anything that will direct you from achieving your goals.

Landon Buford: What do you look for in possible interns?

Here is what I would say, I have been watching a lot of National Geographic as of late, and I have been studying lions. Lions have a pack mentality, and the pack and pride stick together. They ride together, and when it is time to eat, they hunt together, and they have a by any means mentality. So, I look for someone who has a hungry, aggressive, go-getter mentality and ensures that they put the pack and the team first.

Landon Buford: Can you talk to us about the Micheaux Film Fest?

It is a multicultural festival that showcases and celebrates diverse representation both in front of and behind the camera, by providing an outlet for independent filmmakers to showcase their work in state-of-the-art facilities. Aptly named after Oscar Micheaux, a filmmaker and pioneer in the 1920s, who, as an African American male, wrote, directed, produced, and distributed over 44 feature films in his lifetime. Micheaux defied racial and economic barriers, while also operating outside of the conventional Hollywood system of commercial financing.

My co-director (Courtney Branch) and I are going into our second year, we are aiming to create an even more immersive landscape for our filmmakers. The community will be offering a more profound integrated experience, with a digital networking cafe. The digital cafe will operate as a resource for connecting artists and attendees in real-time throughout the festival. Festival attendees and filmmakers will have the opportunity to communicate with each other, schedule meetings, and share information, tips, and notes via the platform. We are still for sponsors if anyone is interested. We are also excited to partner again with Lyndontree Studios, in Townsville, Australia.

You can submit to the Micheaux Film Fest and check out NoelBraham.com

Each episode runs around 22 minutes long, which means you have dozens upon dozens of hours ahead of you. Once the new season concludes this February, Star Wars: The Clone Wars will be officially over.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars Plot

Set during The Clone Wars, this series showcases different moments throughout the conflict. While the show jumps around a lot, the main focus is on the relationship between Anakin Skywalker and his apprentice Ahsoka Tano. This allows us a deeper look into Anakin’s emotional state before he eventually betrays the Jedi and turns to the dark side. The Clone Wars also brings back a number of fan-favorite characters such as Boba Fett.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars Cast

Unlike the live-action films, all of the roles are voiced by different actors and actresses. None of the original cast reprises their parts, so don’t expect Ewan McGregor or Natalie Portman to voice their respective characters. However, the cast does a superb job breathing life into these characters while maintaining the same personalities established in the films.

Tom Kane as the Narrator

Voicing the start of every episode if accomplished voice actor Tom Kane. Acting as the narrator for The Clone Wars, he helps set the scene of every episode and keeps viewers up to speed with the show’s events. Kane has lent his talents to a number of Star Wars properties including The Last Jedi, Star Wars: Battlefront II, Star Wars: Rebels, and the LEGO Star Wars games. Additionally, Kane has worked on The Powerpuff Girls, Fortnite, Call of Duty, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, and Archer.

Matt Lanter as Anakin Skywalker

Taking up the role of the young Jedi Knight, Matt Lanter has appeared in numerous live-action films, animated shows, and video games. He has voiced Anakin Skywalker multiple times in Star Wars: Battlefront II, Star Wars: Forces of Destiny, Kinect Star Wars, and Star Wars Rebels. Lanter has also performed Vampires Suck, Disaster Movie, Star-Crossed, and Pitch Perfect 3. He will be reprising his role as Anakin in Season 7 of The Clone Wars.

James Arnold Taylor as Obi-Wan Kenobi

Portraying the iconic Jedi Master, Obi-Wan Kenobi is James Arnold Taylor. Despite the role being commonly associated with Ewan McGregor, Taylor has done a stellar job capturing the essence of what makes this character so important to the Star Wars mythos. He has worked on a number of popular, long-running television shows such as Young Justice, Guardians of the Galaxy, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, LEGO City Adventures, and The Loud House. Video game fans may also recognize Taylor as the original voice of Ratchet in the classic PS2 title, Ratchet & Clank.

Ashley Eckstein as Ahsoka Tano

Created specifically for Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Ahsoka Tano is the apprentice of Anakin Skywalker. A young padawan, Ahsoka serves as the audience’s POV (Point of View) character for the show. She has also appeared in Star Wars Rebels but has still yet to ever make show up in any of the live-action films. Ashley Eckstein’s portfolio includes Avengers Assemble, Sofia the First, Ultimate Spider-Man, DC Super Hero Girls, That’s So Raven, and Blue Collar TV.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars Spoilers

Since there are a number of big moments throughout Star Wars: The Clone Wars that we strongly suggest you watch this series without any knowledge of spoilers. Throughout the series, we will learn the fates of a number of different characters such as Boba Fett and Darth Maul. Obi-Wan’s love life is explored in later episodes as is Maul’s relationship to The Emperor. The Clone Wars also takes viewers to a number of different planets, both new and old.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars Reviews – What the Critics Said

Despite being a television show born from a so-so film, Star Wars: The Clone Wars has immense critical and fan praise. Currently sitting at a 94% from critics and 91% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, this series boasts better reviews than all of the prequel films. With only the first season sitting at 79%, the rest of the series has earned terrific ratings.

Critics often cite the great animation and how effortlessly this show transports viewers into this universe. While still a children’s show, The Clone Wars isn’t afraid to discuss heavy themes or explore dark settings. Villains are more than one-dimensional foes, with the show taking a lot of time to fully flesh out its various antagonists. Star Wars: The Clone Wars has set the standard for what fans expect from a show based-on this iconic franchise.

Where Star Wars: The Clone Wars Fits in the Franchise  Pantheon

As stated previous, Star Wars: The Clone Wars takes place between the events of Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. Consider canon, the show has a total of seven seasons all of which are set during the three-year war. There is also a 2D animated series of shorts called Clone Wars Volume One and Two which is set directly after the television show.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars Trivia: 5 Fast Facts

Like many Star Wars properties, there are quite a few fascinating stories and moments surrounding its creation. Below are five different Easter Eggs, references, and ways the film impacted popular culture.

  1. 1. The Episodes Are Not in Chronological Order

  2. Perhaps the most curious aspect of Star Wars: The Clone Wars is that the show was aired out of chronological order. Unlike most television series, the show’s timeline actually starts in the middle of Season 2 and then jumps around throughout the 121 episodes. Because of this, Disney released an official episode order for those wanting to view the show in the “correct order.” If you plan to watch the show, we recommend following their list because it makes the overall stories far more coherent – especially early on.

2. All of the Clone Voices Were Recorded Separately

Unlike the films, The Clone Wars spends a surprising amount of time exploring the various troops involved in the conflict. During the recording, voice actor Dee Bradley Baker would give each clone a different inflection or slight dialogue alterations to make them sound unique. Given the clone troopers are always desperate to stand out, this method made them appear as more than faceless soldiers.

3. Only Six Actors Reprised Their Live-Action Roles in the Show

During the show’s lengthy runtime, so far only six actors have reprised their roles from the films. These were Liam Neeson as Qui-Gon Jinn, Daniel Logan as Boba Fett, Anthony Daniels as C-3PO, Mathew Wood as General Grevious, Ahmed Best as Jar Jar Binks, and Pernilla August as Shmi Skywalker. This number could change with the unreleased seventh season, but it’s unlikely. Every other role in the film was recast, even though Hayden Christensen did express interest in voicing Anakin.

4. Plo Koon Has More Screentime Than Most Jedi Council Members

Excluding Yoda, Mace Windu, and Obi-Wan Kenobi, Plo Koon has more screentime than any of the other Jedi Council members. A Kel Dor, Plo Koon was the Jedi who brought Ahsoka to the Jedi Order and feels a deep responsibility for her. He appears throughout the series, despite only showing up for a few minutes in the films. He is director Dave Filnoi’s favorite character and Plo Koon was killed in Revenge of the Sith during the Order 66 execution scene.

5. Anakin and General Grevious Never Meet Face to Face

To adhere to the canon of Revenge of the Sith, Anakin Skywalker and General Grevious were never allowed to meet in-person. While the two have battled against one another in space, their first time seeing one another takes place in the opening act of the third prequel film. Inversely, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Grevious fought multiple times, which helped deepen the rivalry between the two generals. This is one of the best examples of how the show tied in the films’ original plot points.

Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith Overview

Release Date: May 19, 2005
Creators: 20th Century Fox, Lucasfilm Ltd.
Director:
George Lucas
Starring:
Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman, Hayden Christensen, Ian McDiarmid
Rating: PG-13
Synopsis:
Revenge of the Sith revolves around the final days before Anakin Skywalker assumes the title of Darth Vader. We also get to see the dramatic ending to the Clone Wars, how the Empire rose to power, and the fall of the Jedi.

How Long Is Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith?

Revenge of the Sith is the second-longest of the prequel films with the theatrical version clocking in at 2 hours and 20 minutes. This is excluding any deleted or additional scenes, which don’t expect to be available on the service.

Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith Plot

Three years after the events of Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith once again follows Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker. After a failed kidnapping by the Separatists, Anakin’s life begins to spiral out of control as he’s pulled closer to the dark side. With Obi-Wan still attempting to resolve the Clone Wars, Anakin is left alone and manipulated by Sith Lord, Supreme Chancellor Palpatine. What follows is the story of how the Republic collapsed and became the all-powerful Galactic Empire.

Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith Cast

Like the previous prequel films, Revenge of the Sith stars largely the same principal cast members. Hayden Christensen, Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman, Ian McDiarmid, and Samuel L. Jackson all return to reprise their respective roles. There are a few newcomers, such as Matthew Wood who voices the nefarious leader, General Grievous. However, the vast majority of the cast is made up of returning characters from the prequel trilogy.

Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi

Unsurprisingly, actor Ewan McGregor is once again returning to play the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Along with Sir Alec Guinness, McGregor has helped define this role – especially the early years of the character. He will even be reprising this character for a Disney+ show about Ob-Wan Kenobi, however, details are still incredibly scarce. McGregor also manned the alien puppet that helped deliver Luke and Leia during the birth scene. This character was allegedly referred to as “Foamy-Wan Kenobi” by the cast.

Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker

Once again, Hayden Christensen plays the Jedi turned Sith, Anakin Skywalker. Since this film is set at the tail end of The Clone War, Anakin is older and increasingly more jaded about his relationship with the Jedi. Since this film is set during Anakin’s transition to the dark side, we get to see what set him down this dark path that created one of the most iconic villains of all time.

During filming, director George Lucas made Darth Vader’s suit top-heavy when Christensen wore it. This was because he wanted to show how uncomfortable and unnatural Anakin would feel wearing it for the first time.

Natalie Portman  as Padme Amidala

Padme Amidala returns for the last time in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. Portrayed by Natalie Portman, Padme is the strong-willed senator from Naboo and love interest for Anakin Skywalker. While there are no massive revelations surrounding her character, Portman has noted that Revenge of the Sith is her favorite of the prequel movies. She has not been involved in another Star Wars film, television show, or video game since this final installment.

Ian McDiarmid as Supreme Chancellor Palpatine

Despite being involved in every prequel film, Revenge of the Sith is the first time that Palpatine takes center stage. Revealed to be the Sith Master that the Jedi have been searching for Palpatine is responsible for helping transform Anakin Skywalker into Darth Vader. This is also the first time we ever get to the Palpatine wield a lightsaber, as he previously used Force Lightning in the original trilogy. McDiarmid will be reprising his role in the upcoming movie, Star Wars:  The Rise of Skywalker.

Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith Soundtrack

Revenge of the Sith’s score was written by iconic composer John Willaims. Once again performed in London at Abbey Road Studios, the music was recorded by Shawn Williams, London Voices, and the London Symphony Orchestra. When the soundtrack was released it consisted of 15 separate tracks ranging from 2:42 to 13:06 minutes long.

The most popular song in the score is “Battle of the Heroes,” which was designed to be an altered version of the popular “Duel of Fates.” Played during the final showdown between Anakin, Obi-Wan, Yoda, and The Emperor, this song had a music video produced for the Revenge of the Sith DVD.

Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith at the Box Office

According to IMDb, Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith grossed $108,435,841 during it’s opening weekend in the United States. This is over $20 million more than what Attack of the Clones made during it’s initial opening and just a few million under what The Phantom Menace earned. The film made a total of $850,035,63 worldwide and had an estimated budget of $113 million. Surpsisingly, this was the second most successful film of 2005, with Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire taking the number one spot.

Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith Spoilers

Released before end credit sequences and big, cinematic universes existed, Revenge of the Sith doesn’t boast a ton of extras. Given the entire crux of the trilogy revolves around Anakin, his emergance as Darth Vader won’t shock anyone familiar with the series’ lore. We also learn how Padme died, Anakin was injured, the Jedi’s collapse, and the rise of The Empire.

Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith Reviews – What the Critics Said

Revenge of the Sith was positively received by critics and fans alike, making it the most popular of the prequel movies. Currently on Rotten Tomatoes, the movie sits with an 80% rating from critics and a 60% rating from fans. While the visuals were once again praised, other critics noted how well the movie tied up the various plot threads and character arcs. However, this ending was a double-edged sword as a few critics noted the predictability of the ending hindered the movie’s overall impact.

Where Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith Fits in the Franchise  Pantheon

Revenge of the Sith is the third film in what is now called the Skywalker Saga. For the live-action movies, Revenge of the Sith is set between the events of Attack of the Clones and Solo: A Star Wars Story. Additionally, the movie is after the events of The Clones wars television show and the short animated feature that ran before the film’s release.

Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith Trivia: 5 Fast Facts

Like many Star Wars films, there are quite a few fascinating stories and moments surrounding its creation. Below are five different Easter Eggs, references, and ways the film impacted popular culture.

1. The Final Fight Was Not Sped Up

Leading up to the filming of the final battle, Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen trained for two months. Despite the intricacy of the fight, none of it was digitally sped up. That was the actual speed the actors were able to perform the choreography thanks to their lengthy work memorizing the battle.

2. Grevious’ Cough Came From an Injury Just Before the Film Started

One of the trademark charistics of General Grevious is his constant coughing. Initially, Grevious didn’t have this medical issue leading up to the events of the movie. However, during Star Wars: Clone Wars – Volume Two we learn that Grevious had his chest crushed with the Force by Mace Windu. This took place literally moments before Revenge of the Sith, allowing us to see Palpatine’s kidnapping. He is also scene using his feet in combat, but this attack style didn’t translate to the television show or film.

3. Revenge of the Sith was Originally Four Hours Long

It’s recorded that the first cut of the film ran an astounding four hours long. Chopped down to 2 hours and 20 minutes, the initial version had a far longer version of the Palpatine recuse scene. You can see some of this footage in the Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith video game, which featured a long mission based-on the Coruscant battle.

4. Every Clone Trooper is CGI

Despite their heavy presence throughout the movie, every single clone trooper in Revenge of the Sith is entirely CGI. There were no helmets, armor, or costumes made for these characters. This makes both of the armies involved in the Clone Wars entirely digital with the exception of the few Jedi who participated.

5. George Lucas Has a Cameo During the Opera Scene

As someone who rarely makes cameos, it’s rare to see the iconic director show up in any of his movies. During the performance house scene, you can see a blue-colored Lucas talking to someone outside of Palpatine’s private box. He is to the left of the door that Anakin walks through right before the scene cuts.

How Does Star Wars The Mandalorian Fit Within the Star Wars World?

The Mandalorian is the latest entry in the Star Wars mythos, but unlike most of the films, this show aims to give us a glimpse of this universe’s criminal underbelly. Typically only explored in video games, comics, and novels, The Mandalorian is a noticeably darker tale. Starring Pedro Pascal, Taika Waititi, Gina Carano, and Giancarlo Esposito, this will be the first Star Wars show made exclusively for Disney+.

Stream The Mandalorian Now

Here’s what you need to know when The Mandalorian releases on November 12.

The Mandalorian Timeline

Much like The Clone Wars animated series, The Mandalorian seeks to explore a time gap between films. Set several years after the events of Return of the Jedi, The Mandalorian takes place during the aftermath of The Empire’s defeat. With The First Order still in its infancy, The Mandalorian is set in what we assume is The Outer Rim. Given how lawless this section of space typically was, it makes a perfect setting for a criminal-focused show.

We do know that the remnants of The Empire will be involved in some capacity, as Giancarlo Esposito will be playing a high ranking Imperial official. During the trailer, we not only see Stormtroopers, but hear the unmistakable sound of an AT-ST Imperial Walker. There’s also a brief glimpse of Super Battle Droids and Separatist fighters, which suggests that the planet this show takes place on was once invaded by the droids during The Clone Wars.

The Larger Picture

While The Mandalorian may look like a Boba Fett knock-off, the show actually connects to a larger storyline that was established during The Clone Wars television series. For the unfamiliar, Mandalore was a planet located in The Outer Rim that suffered a devastating civil war. After being rebuilt, the planet and its population remained neutral during The Clone Wars.

This position was met with conflict thanks to an organization called Death Watch. Desperate to return Mandalore to its warrior ways, the group struggled and attempted to regain control of the planet. What followed was a series of conflicts, battles, and even leadership changes throughout the show. Going into any more would spoil some terrific moments from the series, so make sure to watch up on The Clone Wars before The Mandalorian releases.

The Mandalorian Armor

In the show, the armor that The Mandalorian wears is considered some of the best in the galaxy. Used frequently on Mandalore by numerous soldiers, the armor is able to withstand blaster fire, which can be seen in the most recent trailer. Typically, this armor was coupled with a jetpack, but this doesn’t appear to be the case in the show.

Of course, most recognize will recognize this armor as the gear that the bounty hunter Boba Fett wore. Currently, we have no idea if Boba Fett is alive or dead following is untimely fate in The Return of the Jedi. Despite the previous canon seeing Boba Fett escaping the Sarlacc Pitt, Disney has not clarified if this character is alive or dead in the new canon.

IG-11 and the Assassin Droids

IG-11 is one of the many new characters set to debut in The Mandalorian. Voiced by Taika Waititi, this droid is described as “like a child,” since he doesn’t know how to lie or what sarcasm is. Initially, many believed that this droid was actually IG-88, which was the famous assassin droid that showed up in the background of The Empire Strikes Back.

One of five identical droids created by an organization called the Banking Clan, these robots slaughtered their creators upon activation and fled into the galaxy. They are believed to be supremely deadly and efficient in combat. However, we don’t know if IG-11 was apart of this group or if he is simply a different model of IG.

These droids have popped up in a variety of different Star Wars stories including The Clone Wars, Darth Maul comics, Star Wars: Galactic Defense video game, and Star Wars: Rebels.

How Long Is Star Wars: Attack of the Clones?

Without any deleted or additional scenes, the theatrical version of Star Wars: The Attack of the Clones runs 2 hours and 22 minutes long.

Star Wars: Attack of the Clones Plot

Attack of the Clones picks up 10 years after the first prequel film with an assassination attempt against Senator Padme Amidala. This spurs the Jedi Counsel to send Obi-Wan Kenobi alone on a hunt for the person who hired the bounty hunter. Without his master, Anakin Skywalker begins a romantic relationship with Padme, despite the Jedi having strict rules against this. Eventually, both stories will intertwine in an event that kicks off one of the biggest wars in the franchise’s history.

Star Wars: Attack of the Clones Cast

In Attack of the Clones, the majority of principal characters from The Phantom Menace have returned. This includes Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Natalie Portman as Padme, Samuel L. Jackson as Mace Windu, and Ian McDiarmid as Supreme Chancellor Palpatine. Since the film is set sometime after The Phantom Menace, Jake Lloyd has been replaced by Haden Christensen for the role of Anakin Skywalker. Christopher Lee has also joined the cast as one of the principal villains, Sith Lord Count Dooku.

Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi

Reprising his role, Obi-Wan Kenobi has ascended to the rank of Jedi Master and is now responsible for teaching Anakin Skywalker. With the film set ten years after The Phantom Menace, McGregor decided to let grow out his hair and beard to fall in-line with the original look that Sir Alec Guinness established in A New Hope.

However, McGregor was forced to wear a fake beard and hairpiece during reshoots since he shaved his head to film Black Hawk Down. Ewan McGregor will also be headlining a new series for Disney+, but details surrounding this show is still unknown.

Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker

Taking up the mantle of Anakin Skywalker, Hayden Christensen portrays the young Jedi in both Attack of the Clones and this film’s sequel, Revenge of the Sith. Even though his performance is often criticized, Christensen helped define Anakin Skywalker’s look before he became Darth Vader.

Much like Ewan McGregor, the first time he obtained his lightsaber, the actor was caught making lightsaber noises during rehearsal. Christensen also explained that his favorite set in Attack of the Clones was the Coruscant’s nightclub since it was a real set with no green screen used.

Natalie Portman  as Padme Amidala

Returning to the Star Wars franchise, Natalie Portman once again plays Naboo’s senator, Padme Amidala. While Portman is supposed to be older than Anakin in the films, Portman is actually a few months younger than actor, Hayden Christensen. Portman is known for appearing in a variety of popular and successful films such as Black Swan, V for Vendetta, Jackie, and Closer. She will also be taking up the mantle of Thor in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe after appearing in several MCU films as Jane Foster.

Christopher Lee as Count Dooku

A newcomer to the Star Wars franchise, Christopher Lee portrays the main antagonist of Attack of the Clones, Count Dooku. A powerful Sith Lord, Dooku was once a Jedi that was trained by Yoda. However, he turned against the Jedi and eventually went to the Dark Side. Perhaps the most accomplished actor in the prequel trilogy, Lee has appeared in a number of films including The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Wicker Man, Dracula, The Man With the Golden Gun, and Corpse Bride. Sadly, Christopher Lee died on June 7, 2015 due to heart failure.

Star Wars: Attack of the Clones Trivia: 5 Fast Facts

Like many Star Wars films, there are quite a few fascinating stories and moments surrounding its creation. Below are five different Easter Eggs, references, and ways the film impacted popular culture.

1. Count Dooku Was Initially a Female Alien

Even though the role eventually event to Christopher Lee, Count Dooku wasn’t always an older man. During the initial creation, this Sith Lord was actually going to be a female alien. Dooku went through multiple versions, forcing Lucas to tell the team to either decide on a design or just restart with Christopher Lee. The role was redone and given to Lee, with the previous female alien morphing into The Clone Wars’ villain, Asajj Ventress.

2. Death-Sticks Were Deliberately Added by George Lucas

In Attack of the Clones, Death-Sticks are the odd, glowing drug that is offered to Obi-Wan in the Coruscant nightclub. According to the official Star Wars website, this drug is incredibly addicting and deadly, shortening the life span of anyone who uses it. Lucas added this drug into the film himself since he is vehemently anti-smoking.

3. All of the Clones are Animated

One of the most surprising aspects of Attack of the Clones is that the entire clone army is completely digital. No armor, outside of a helmet and some footwear, were made for the clones. The soldiers were Industrial Light & Magic employees who mocapped the movements of the troopers. This means, at the end of the film both of the armies are completely digital with the exception of the Jedi.

4. The Droid Factory Was Based On a Video Game

Allegedly, the droid factory action sequence was influenced by the 1998 PlayStation 1 game, Apocalypse. In the 8th level, players fight through a factory that has robots being built around the player. Developed by Neversoft, this title received average scores from critics and hasn’t received any sequels or remasters.

5. Samuel L. Jackson’s Lightsaber Has Bad Mother F**ker Engraved on It

Portraying Jedi Master Mace Windu, Samuel L. Jackson had the phrase “Bad Mother F**ker” engraved on the bottom of the weapon’s hilt. This was a reference to the wallet he used in Pulp Fiction, which had the same phrase written across it. Jackson has appeared in all three prequel films.
