Auli’i Cravalho was performing her hit song from the Disney movie Moana for the Academy Awards tonight when she was struck in the head by a flag by a dancer behind her.

Like a champ, Cravalho barely flinched and continued to sing.

Cravalho, 16, is from Kohala, Hawaii and was selected to be the newest voice of a Disney princess after hundreds of auditions, reports the Huffington Post. Cravalho was one of the last actresses casting director Rachel Sutton saw before she was offered the title role. Cravalho starred with fellow voice actor Dwayne Johnson in the animated film, but her breakout moment in the movie was brought to her by Hamilton star and composer, Lin-Manuel Miranda, who wrote the song “How Far I’ll Go.”

Prior to Cravalho’s live performance of “How Far I’ll Go” at the Oscars tonight, Miranda performed a rap to introduce the starlet. You can watch Cravalho’s full performance in the Twitter video above, including Miranda’s rap.

Mon Mothma Rebels, Rebels Secret Cargo, Star Wars Rebels recap

(Lucasfilm)

Star Wars Rebels has spent a long time on the fringe of the Rebel Alliance’s leadership, but Phoenix Squadron finally meets the leader of the fight against the Empire in “Secret Cargo.” Senator Mon Mothma of Chandrilla, who we saw as the ringleader of the Alliance in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, finally makes her first appearance in the series.

The episode goes a long way in establishing Rebels as the ultimate bridge between the Prequel Trilogy and the events in Rogue One. Considering that the show was just renewed for a fourth season, “Secret Cargo” was the perfect way to renew our faith in the show after more than a few duds this season.

By the way, Genevieve O’Reilly, who played Mon Mothma in Revenge of the Sith and Rogue One, was brought back to do the voice of the character in Rebels.

Here’s a look at all the action in “Secret Cargo.”

SPOILERS FOLLOW

Waiting In Rubble

The episode kicks off with Hera, Zeb, Ezra and Chopper in the Ghost, floating aimlessly in the rubble of a destroyed Separatist cruiser. The four are waiting for another Rebel crew to show up, but they have no idea when they will arrive. They have to provide the other crew with fuel, under Senator Bail Organa’s orders. So, they spend their time watching the HoloNet.

Suddenly, a report from the HoloNet shows Senator Mon Monthma making a speech in the Senate, denouncing the Emperor as a “lying executioner” after a massacre on Ghorman. (This is a reference to a massacre mentioned in the “Legends” video game X-Wing. In the new canon, the massacre was exposed by Senator Tynnra Pamlo, who we saw in Rogue One.) Ezra is stunned that Mothma would make that statement and Zeb praises her for having the guts to do so.

Suddenly, an Imperial Probe Droid, like the one in “Warhead,” shows up. At first, the four try to power everything down so the droid doesn’t notice them.

A Very Sensitive Assignment

After the title, the probe is still floating around the rubble and notices the ship. Suddenly, Hera powers up the ship so Ezra can shoot the probe, but it zooms away too fast. Ezra can’t shoot it down before it sends a message. In a stroke of poor timing, the other Rebel crew arrives, just as Ezra blasts the probe.

It turns out that the squad they are meeting is Gold Squadron. Later, the Ghost is attached to the Rebel cruiser. The Senatorial Attache, Erskin Semaj, tells Hera that they aren’t even supposed to know what the cargo is. Erskin also introduces Captain Jon “Dutch” Vander (who we saw in A New Hope and Rogue One, thanks to some ILM tricks). Hera introduces the rest of her crew.

They get to the business of refueling Gold Squadron’s Y-Wings. Zeb argues with another pilot about Phoenix Squadron’s showy ways of dealing with the Empire and making things harder for everyone else. Vander also chimes in that it was a bad idea for them to let the probe detect them. He reminds them that this is a “sensitive” assignment, but Ezra snaps back, saying that they should have been given more details about it.

Hera agrees that they needed more information. Erskin explains that they have cargo that the Empire desperately wants. This discussion is cut short though, as two Imperial cruisers finally arrive, guns blazing. Unfortunately, Gold Two is knocked out when the Imperials hit the Ghost. Ezra has to take her place in one of the Y-Wings to engage the Empire. Hera vouches for Ezra, insisting that he can do it.

In order for everyone to survive, they have to detach the Ghost and get the cargo on their ship. The transport just lost its shields! The hatch is jammed though, so Hera is going to need some help from the cargo – Mon Mothma herself.

If That’s What It Takes

Mothma has to help Chopper get the Ghost detached from the transport, since apparently her escort doesn’t want to help out. Just as they detach, the Imperials destroy the transport. Meanwhile, the Y-Wings have some heavy resistance too, but are able to shoot down one of the two Imperial cruisers so they can pull off the escape. During the fighting, Ezra was impressed by the Y-Wings’ ion cannons.

After getting away from the scene, Hera formally introduces everyone to Mothma. Erskin then begs Mothma to let them take her back to Chandrilla to make sure she’s in a safe hiding place. But Mothma rejects that idea, telling him that they must go to Dantooine (the planet Princess Leia said a Rebel base was on in A New Hope) for a big meeting with the other rebel cells. She explains to Hera that her challenge to the Emperor in the Senate was really a message to all the other cells that they aren’t alone in this fight. Mothma says she must be at the meeting.

Erskin notes that Mothma’s involvement in the Rebellion had been a secret before today. Clearly, that cat is out of the bag now and Hera assures them that they can get Mothma out of the sector safely.

Unbeknownst to Hera, that job is about to get really difficult because Grand Admiral Thrawn suspects that the transport’s cargo was “something prized… a certain Senator.” He wants her arrested for treason.

Thrawn explains that this won’t be easy because Hera is likely to take an uneasy path. He theorizes that she will take the Archeon Pass, which will take them right through a nebula. Since Imperial capitol ships won’t be able to make it through, Thrawn has already told his TIE Defender pilot and other pilots to get prepared for the mission. Governor Pryce requests Thrawn’s permission to personally arrest Mothma. They want her alive.

Meanwhile on the Ghost, Mothma tells Hera that she envies pilots who can leave their troubles behind. Hera can’t believe that Mothma would ever run away from problems. Mothma explains that she’s sacrificed everything to fight the Empire and has learned that she can’t solve everything in the Senate. Hera reminds her that she’ll have to fight with blasters instead of votes.

“It’s a new experience, being on the run… but if that’s what it takes,” Mothma says.

“Whatever it takes, this Rebellion is worth it,” Hera replies.

At this point, they arrive at the nebula, where Vander gives us a quick astronomy lesson. Stars are forming in there, so a ship could burn up in the nebula. The Imperials then arrive, along with the fancy new TIE Defender. The pilot of the TIE Defender turns out to be Vult Skerris, who we saw in “The Antilles Extraction.” He wants them to surrender, but the reply from Gold Squadron is attack.

Ezra warns the other pilots that Skerris’ ship has shields. Hera then flies right into the nebula and warns the Y-Wing pilots not to use their proton torpedoes because they can ignite the nebulous gas. At first, things don’t go well, as Gold Five is killed, leaving just Vander and Ezra in the Y-Wings.

Hera leads everyone deeper into the nebula, and one of the two other TIE pilots are burned up and destroyed. The TIE Defender is a little tougher, but when Skerris realizes that he can’t go any further, he leaves the nebula. The Ghost can’t take much more either, so it leaves too. At that point though, two Star Destroyers arrive, including Pryce’s.

You Fought With the Rebellion Against the Empire?

The Ghost’s power is so depleted that they can’t speed away. Pryce tells Mothma over the comms that she’s been charged with treason. Mothma agrees to surrender, but she then tells Hera that it’s a stalling tactic while Hera figures out a plan.

Meanwhile in the nebula, Ezra and Vander are attacked by Skerris! Ezra uses an elaborate move to bring Skerris right in front of Vander, who then has to shoot his ion cannon and hopefully not hit Ezra. He just manages to get the ion cannon shot off without hitting Ezra. They leave the nebula and Vander is sure that Skerris isn’t dead.

Back in the Ghost, Mothma requests that, if she turns herself in, Pryce can’t hurt the other rebel cells. Mothma has to keep stalling, just as Chopper powers up the hyperdrive. But Pryce moves quickly to deny Mothma’s requests and turns on the tractor beam.

After we see the Y-Wings make it out of the nebula, Hera starts to give up because they can’t break off the tractor beam pull. But just at that moment, Ezra hails Hera. However, he then spots the two destroyers and they start moving to attack.

Vander tells Ezra to power up his ion cannon and the proton torpedoes. Hera has a eureka moment and tells them not to fire the torpedoes at the destroyers, but into the nebula. That creates a blast that knocks the Star Destroyers, and blows up the tractor beam. The Ghost and the Y-Wings then blast off into hyperspace, completing their great escape.

After leaving hyperspace, the Y-Wings attach to the Ghost so everyone can gather in the main hold. Everyone exchanges praises as they arrive at the rendezvous point. Mothma then sends out a message to rebel leaders, telling everyone that she has decided to resign from the Senate. That way, she can completely devote herself to fighting with the other rebel cells at the front lines.

“We will not rest until we bring an end to the Empire, until we restore our Republic. Are you with me?” Mothma asks.

Moments later, Rebel ships start to arrive (including the hammerheads we saw in Rogue One).

“Look how many there are,” Ezra says in amazement.

“This, my friends… this is our Rebellion,” Mothma says as the episode ends.

What’s Next For the Ghost Crew

That was an excellent episode of Rebels. The show is finally reaching its potential, as it shows the building of the Rebel Alliance we saw in Rogue One. Sadly, it looks like this main plot will be put on hold for the next episode, “Double Agent Droid,” which airs on March 11. In this one, Chopper and AP-5 will be the stars.

Here’s the complete episode description: “Chopper and AP-5 join forces as they sneak aboard an Imperial station on a mission to steal some important codes that they need, but an Imperial specialist discovers the droids and forces them to work against the crew and generate chaos.

There has been a bunch of big Star Wars updates this week that you can’t miss. Easily the most exciting bit of news was confirmation that Luke Skywalker finally gets to talk in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. There was also a big addition to the Han Solo: A Star Wars Story cast and Rebels got picked up for another season.

Here’s a look at the big three Star Wars stories of the week.

Luke Asks Rey, ‘Who Are You?’ in ‘The Last Jedi’

On March 8, Los Angeles Times reporter Daniel Miller live-tweeted Disney’s annual shareholders meeting. A month before Star Wars Celebration, Disney chief Bob Iger showed a very brief clip. According to Miller, the scene showed Rey (Daisy Ridley) handing Luke (Mark Hamill) his lightsaber back, as we see her do at the end of The Force Awakens. Surprisingly, Luke asks her, “Who are you?”

The footage also showed Chewbacca, Finn (John Boyega) and General Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher). “We saw all sorts of settings — mountains, oceans, forests, deserts. Look suitably epic, exotic,” Miller wrote.

“When we last saw Rey at the end of The Force Awakens, you remember she had just found Luke Skywalker on that faraway refuge on that cliff on that island,” Iger said during an introduction, reports USA Today. “We make a point of revealing very little from our upcoming Star Wars films, we want to keep it a secret, But we’re making an exception today, showing right after that scene when that lightsaber was handed to its rightful owner. A lot has happened in two years.”

Iger also had some warm words about Carrie Fisher, who died in December. “She will always hold a place in the hearts of millions of Star Wars fans, and our hearts. We all miss her,” Iger told the shareholders. “This movie coming out is part of her legacy.”

Miller later added that someone can be heard yelling “It’s now or never!” in the footage. He couldn’t make out which character it was.

The title The Last Jedi was revealed in January. The film was directed by Rian Johnson and opens on December 15, 2017. It is expected that the first trailer will be shown at Celebration in Orlando next month.

On March 6, Lucasfilm announced that Michael Kenneth Williams is joining the Young Han Solo movie. It’s still untitled and Williams’ character was not revealed.

Williams joins Alden Ehrenreich, who is playing Han Solo, and Donald Glover, who is playing Lando Calrissian. Joonas Suotamo is playing Chewbacca. Emilia Clarke, Thandie Newton, Woody Harrelson and Phoebe Waller-Bridge are also in the movie.

The young Han Solo film was written by Lawrence Kasdan and his son Jon. The LEGO Movie‘s Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are directing.

The film is set during the years before A New Hope. The plan is to release the film on May 25, 2018.

‘Rebels’ Gets a Fourth Season

Mon Mothma Rebels, Rebels Secret Cargo, Star Wars Rebels recap

(Lucasfilm)

Star Wars Rebels will continue for a fourth season during the 2017-2018 TV season, Lucasfilm announced last week.

The show’s plot started five years before A New Hope. The most recent episode, “Secret Cargo,” took the show closer to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, as the Ghost crew helped Mon Mothma deliver a message to unite the other Rebel cells. Hopefully, the show will lead right up to the Battle of Scarif.

Rebels executive producer Dave Feloni will be at Celebration on April 15 to preview Rebels‘ fourth season. Celebration runs from April 13 to April 16, with single-day tickets still available.

Double Agent Droid, Star Wars Rebels recap, Star Wars Rebels Double Agent Droid

(Lucasfilm)

After the excellent “Secret Cargo,” Star Wars Rebels takes another detour to give us the adventures of AP-5 and Chopper in “Double Agent Droid.”

Dave Filoni and his team are really trying to force the AP-5/Chopper relationship down our throats as a new kind of C-3PO/R2-D2 clash of personalities. The desire to create new droid duos worked out really well in Marvel’s first Darth Vader series, with the homicidal maniacs Triple Zero and BT-1. But the relationship between AP-5 and Chopper seems a bit forced still. Maybe “Double Agent Droid” will change that.

Before we get to the episode itself, remember that Phoenix Squadron is still preparing for an ultimate face-off with the Empire on Lothal. In the episode, Chopper, Wedge and AP-5 are sent to an Imperial station to get codes they will need to get around the Imperial blockade of the planet.

Here’s all the action in “Double Agent Droid.”

SPOILERS FOLLOW

The Best Team for the Job

The episode kicks off with Zeb and Ezra joking about Hera sending off Wedge, AP-5 and Chopper on a secret mission to get codes needed to pull off an eventual siege on Lothal. The trio have been sent off to get codes from the Imperial Security Bureau.

AP-5 is surprised that Wedge is on the trip and he also doesn’t like having work with Chopper, who’s wearing his Imperial paint job. (How much time does Phoenix Squadron waste painting and re-painting Chopper?) The former Imperial droid is leading this mission, he reminds the other two in the shuttle. This leads to an “Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better” argument between AP-5 and Chopper. Wedge realizes that the reason he’s on this mission is because no one else wanted the job.

Apparently, Annie Get Your Gun has been seen in the Star Wars universe.

Always Take Droids Seriously

After the title, Wedge arrives at a restricted Imperial center on Killun-71. Wedge tells the Imperials that he’s dropping off two service droids. Surprisingly (for AP-5, at least), he’s been cleared. After landing, AP-5 goes through the scanner to enter the base without a problem. Chopper goes through and red lights go off.

The stormtroopers on the base don’t notice Chopper, but an Imperial scanner frigate moving through space does. The commander of the frigate thinks that it could be the spy droid they’ve been looking for and orders his pilots to fly to Killun-71.

Back at the station, AP-5 and Chopper argue over how to get the codes they need. Chopper thinks he can just plug into any outlet, but AP-5 doesn’t think the information they need will be accessible from that point. Eventually, their argument turns into a shoving match, and the two droids decide to go their separate ways to get the information.

While they argue, the Imperial scanner ship is getting closer. They see that the C1 astromech (Chopper) could be the same droid Grand Admiral Thrawn mentioned in memos. When one officer suggests they send a message to Killun, the leader says that they will not do so until he gets the information they need from the spy.

AP-5 then arrives at the central computer, only to be approached by another RA-7 droid named PZ-7. She is surprised that another droid of her kind was on the same floor. AP-5 tells her that she’s been reassigned and she takes the order without a second through. AP-5 is surprised, but just moves on to his mission. “The Empire never did take droids seriously. That alone explains all of Chopper’s success,” he says to himself.

AP-5 quickly downloads the Lothal codes they need without a problem from the computer. “I could have done this mission by myself,” he says.

Meanwhile, Chopper is trying to access the codes his own way. Unbeknownst to him, the Imperial scanner controller is planning on using this to get the location of the Phoenix Squadron base from Chopper’s memory. This sends an electric bolt through the terminal, shocking Chopper. But Chopper doesn’t have the coordinates to the base in his memory banks. So, the controller takes control of Chopper, in the hopes that they will be lead to the Rebel base.

AP-5 finds Chopper still at the terminal. Chopper is eerily quiet, while AP-5 continues boasting about his success. One of the comms officers tells the controller that AP-5’s stick does have the codes the Rebels need. But the controller calculates that the Rebels have a 31 percent chance of successfully using the codes, while they have an 82 percent chance of finding the Rebel base by using Chopper. “The odds are with us.”

Meet The New Chopper, Not the Same as the Old Chopper

AP-5 arrives at the shuttle to tell Wedge that they have to leave immediately now that he has the codes. Chopper finally arrives too and apologizes for being delayed. AP-5 and Wedge are stunned. But rather than thinking something is weird, AP-5 believes that Chopper has just finally realized that AP-5 is the smarter droid. He does find it a little strange that Chopper is in “standby” mode, though.

While in Hyperspace, AP-5 does notice that Chopper is strangely using Imperial codes. He thinks Chopper is just questioning his loyalty again. “I’m on to you,” he says as he leaves to talk with Wedge. The controller is watching all of this and should start to get worried.

In the shuttle cockpit, Hera congratulates Wedge on the success, but he doesn’t want to take credit because the droids did all the hard work. Chopper suddenly shows up and offers Wedge a drink. Wedge thinks this “New Chopper” personality is a little strange, but AP-5 thinks it’s all an insincere act. “Hey, it’s better than before,” Wedge says.

The controller realizes that AP-5 could be a complication. But every time he has Chopper say nice things to AP-5, AP-5 just thinks it’s a ploy. Wedge then tells Chopper to go check on the ship in the back. When Chopper leaves, Wedge tells AP-5 to cool it with the competition. But AP-5 tells him that he thinks Chopper was compromised back on Killun. Wedge disagrees.

When Chopper returns, Wedge gives Chopper the controls of the ship while he uses the refresher. (That’s Star Wars lingo for bathroom.) AP-5 looks worried – well, about as worried as droid can be.

AP-5 then follows Wedge into the bathroom – I mean, refresher – and tells him that he really thinks something is up with Chopper. Wedge doesn’t have time for AP-5’s conspiracy theories (even if they are correct). The controller sees this through Chopper’s eyes and thinks everything is back on track because AP-5 has lost his credibility. “It’s only a matter of time before the droid leads us to Phoenix Squadron, and then their rebel base!”

I Told You So

When the three meet up with the Ghost, AP-5 tells Hera that he thinks something is seriously wrong with Chopper. She takes the stick with the codes and they notice that Chopper isn’t with them. She finds him in the cockpit looking at the hyperspace logs. “You’re not making any sense, Chop,” she says. Hera reminds the droid that she always wipes his memory of Hyperspace jumps as a security precaution. “I think you need a power recharge.”

Hera then finds Ezra, Zeb and Wedge joking about AP-5’s conspiracy theories. She also thinks something might be wrong with Chopper. Wedge suddenly realizes that Chopper has been too nice lately. Just as Hera suggests they run a diagnostics on Chopper, they suddenly fall out of Hyperspace! Chopper tells them that he is in the engine room, so they all head over there. AP-5 doesn’t think this is a good idea… and he’s right!

Chopper wasn’t really in the engine room. He locks them all in the room, then disconnects the Imperial shuttle they used to go to Killun. “Well, I hate to say I told you so,” AP-5 says. Hera promises that they’ll listen to him the next time.

Chopper picks up the stolen data, then the controller has Chopper install a data spike into the Navicomputer. The spike could send all the data from the computer to the Imperial frigate. They just need some time. To make sure they have the time they need, the controller has Chopper open the cargo bay doors!

Droid Vs. Droid

Hera uses an emergency control panel to close the doors before they all get sucked into the vacuum of space. She then realizes that Chopper has been compromised and is being used to download the location of the base on Atollon. The only other way to get the doors to the cockpit on the Ghost open is by using an access portal… on the outside of the ship. Since they don’t have their spacesuits, AP-5 is the only one who can get to it.

While AP-5 is outside, the controller sends Chopper outside with two blasters to destroy him! AP-5 uses the hatch cover to block the blasts. Chopper then zooms away, and the controller thinks that 50 percent of the data from the Ghost will be enough. AP-5 does get the access doors open, but he continues struggling with the compromised Chopper. The two droids are knocked away from the Ghost, and AP-5 goes floating off into space.

Chopper gets back into the cockpit, only to be zapped by Zeb. (“I’ve wanted to do that for a long time!” Haven’t we all?) The controller realizes that something has gone wrong, as they don’t have all the data.

Hera gets really angry about the Imperials playing around with her droid. So, she comes up with a plan. She reverses the Imperial signal to send a power surge back to the Imperial ship. Their computers get fried, so the controller orders his officers to cut the transmission. But before they can do so, all the power fries their memory core. It causes a chain reaction that results in the whole ship blowing up!

Back on the Ghost, it looks like Chopper’s brain might be completely fried. But eventually, Chopper wakes up. During the celebration, they realize that AP-5 is floating out in space. He has a philosophical moment and even starts singing! Unfortunately, the Ghost breaks his happiness and they pick him up.

Once back on the ship, Chopper apologizes, so AP-5 thinks he’s still compromised… for a moment. Because then Chopper hits both him and Wedge. Wedge then vows to fly solo from now on.

After they leave, the camera pans up to see Hera smirking. “Like I said, don’t mess with my droid,” she says as the episode ends.

What’s Next for the Ghost Crew

Sure, “Double Agent Droid” was another filler episode. We probably didn’t really need a whole episode explaining how they got codes. But this was a much better distraction from the important issues than “Warhead,” that’s for sure. It’s just a little disappointing after the great “Secret Cargo” episode.

Thankfully, things get really serious in the next episode, “Twin Suns,” on March 18. After all this time, it looks like we will finally catch-up to Darth Maul, just before he faces Obi-Wan Kenobi on Tatooine. Here’s the episode description: “Reacting to a vision of Maul, Ezra defies Hera and Kanan to travel to a remote planet in hopes of stopping the former Sith lord from carrying out his plans.”

“Bad and Boujee” has been subject to countless parodies since it broke earlier this year, but Nerdist has topped them all with the perfect blend of trap rap and Disney magic.

Their tribute to Migos, aka “The Beatles of our Generation,” finds the catchy tune being reworked to fit the context of the Disney classic Beauty and the Beast. Retitled “Belle and Boujee,” the new version shows Belle and the rest of the members of the castle getting undeniably lit, with hilarious riffs on the lyrics (Rain drop/drop top/I’m chilling with a clock and a teapot”) and silverware that shows no hesitancy in hyping up the proceedings. If that wasn’t enough, there’s a scene-stealing verse from Lil Uzi Chip– what more could you want?

Star Wars Rebels Twin Suns, Star Wars Rebels Obi-Wan, Twin Suns review

(Lucasfilm)

The moment we have all been waiting for ever since Darth Maul survived the Clone Wars is finally here. In this week’s episode of Star Wars Rebels, titled “Twin Suns,” Maul and Obi-Wan Kenobi finally face off on the sands of Tatooine.

“Twin Suns” returns us to the Force/Jedi plot of Rebels, which we haven’t visited since Maul appeared in “Visions and Voices.” The previous episode of Rebels, “Double Agent Droid” was a filler and other episodes have focused on Sabine’s decision to head to Mandalore and the build-up for the Phoenix Squadron’s attack on Lothal. That attack is being held back until next week’s season finale, because “Twin Suns” has some important business to get through first.

Here’s a look at all the action in “Twin Suns.”

SPOILERS AHEAD

You Can’t Escape Tatooine

The episode starts with the blazing twin suns of Tatooine baring down on a lost Maul, wandering the desert. He can feel Obi-Wan‘s presence, but he has no idea where his old adversary is. He refuses to let it all end by getting lost. He decides to tempt Obi-Wan’s “noble heart” to draw him out. Maul pulls out a piece of the Sith Holocron and uses it to call out to Ezra.

Why Would Anyone Want to Go to a Desert Planet?

After the title, we head to Atollon, where Ezra is trying to sleep. He is woken up by Obi-Wan’s message from Revenge of the Sith, when he told other Jedi to stay away from Coruscant. Ezra uses the Force to open Kanan’s quarters above the Ghost and spot Obi-Wan’s message. Then, the Sith Holocron flashes, as Maul’s voice screams “Kenobi!” Ezra is knocked onto the floor, and turns to see Kanan in the doorway. “Maul’s back,” he tells Kanan.

In the mission control room in Chopper Base, Hera asks Kanan what this could all mean. Kanan’s not too sure, but Ezra thinks it proves that Obi-Wan is alive and needs help. Rex reminds him that he wishes General Kenobi was still alive, but Senator Bail Organa has the Rebellion convinced that Obi-Wan is dead.

“Maybe he was wrong,” Ezra says. He thinks this is a sign that Maul is close to finding Obi-Wan. Hera tells him that it could have just been a broken recording. Then, Kanan reminded Ezra that the last time he heard Maul’s voice (back in “Visions and Voices”), Maul manipulated him. Still, Ezra wants to go to Tatooine so he can check things out. (How exactly Ezra figured out that Obi-Wan was on Tatooine went unexplained. The holocron in “Visions and Voices” showed him that Obi-Wan was on a planet with two suns, but since there are other planets in the Star Wars universe, Ezra and Kanan couldn’t say for certain that the planet was Tatooine.)

Hera pulls Ezra to the side. She tells him that she really needs him for the Lothal operation because he knows Lothal better than anyone else. Ezra tells her to think about what Obi-Wan could do for the Rebellion. “If he was alive, do you think he would be hiding on some backwater world instead of helping us?” Hera says. (Of course, that’s exactly what Obi-Wan is doing.) Hera insists that he stay so he can train for the attack. Ezra appears to agree, telling her that he wants to help Lothal more than anyone else and walks away.

On the next day, Ezra delivers munitions for the A-Wings. He tells another engineer that AP-5 ordered them to be delivered. The engineer tells him that the A-Wing trainer ship can run without being fully loaded. While the engineer is checking the manifest, Ezra sneaks into the trainer. He jumps in, and the engineer tries to stop Ezra, but he zooms away from Atollon instead. “Hera, I hope you can forgive me,” he says.

The Middle of Nowhere

After the break, Ezra arrives at Tatooine, the “middle of nowhere.” Chopper sneaked onto the ship and surprises Ezra. He tells the droid that he didn’t want anyone else from the Ghost team on the trip. Chopper reminds Ezra that he can take care of himself. Since Chopper is there already, he has to come along.

Ezra lands on Tatooine at night, using the holocron pieces to get close to Obi-Wan. The pieces activate and guide Ezra to a canyon. After landing, Ezra tells Chopper to stay at the ship. As he starts walking away, he goes towards a piece of the Sith Holocron. “Now you see,” says Maul’s disembodied voice.

Ezra realizes this is a trap and runs back to the ship, which is now being attacked by Tusken Raiders! He uses the Force to push off one Tusken from the ship so Chopper can escape. While Ezra fights on the ground, Tusken snipers shoot at the A-Wing, destroying Ezra’s ship! After the explosion, we see Maul kill the Tuskens, but Ezra assumes the explosion scared them off.

The two decide to go forth into the desert and walk all night. In the morning, they reach a barren sea of sand. Ezra and Chopper argue about going straight into an area where the sun will bear down on them without any cover, but they are interrupted by Maul’s voice. Ezra sees the shadow of Maul in the sands. He asks Chopper if he sees Maul, too. But when he looks back, Maul is gone. The holocron pieces tell Ezra to push ahead, and he tells Chopper he can go find a settlement and possibly call home. After looking back and forth, Chopper decides to follow Ezra.

Despite a sandstorm, Ezra keeps moving ahead. Maul’s voice tells him to draw Obi-Wan out. After the storm, Chopper begins slowing down and loses power. Ezra kneels down, shaking Chopper. “This is my fault. I should have just stayed home,” he says. “I don’t know what to do.”

“He is dead. He is dead,” Maul’s voice tells Ezra. “You led me to him. You failed your friends. You will die!” Ezra believes this is Maul telling him what will happen in the future if he doesn’t find Obi-Wan. Maul then suddenly appears, and Ezra lunges at him with his lightsaber. But there’s no one there for Ezra to slice. He hears Maul laugh as there’s a fade to white.

A mysterious figure picks up finds Ezra. Ezra looks up and then closes his eyes.

From a Certain Point of View

That night, Ezra wakes up to find Chopper plugged in and powering up by a fire. A Dewback growls beside him. “You’re in the wrong place, Ezra Bridger,” Obi-Wan tells him. (Stephen Stanton, who voiced several characters in The Clone Wars and Rebels, does an admiral impression of Sir Alec Guinness.)

Obi-Wan tells him that he’ll help Ezra leave Tatooine. But Ezra tells him that he came here to warn Obi-Wan and help him fight Maul. Obi-Wan knows all this though. “One doesn’t survive as long as I have by being foolish or unprepared. Maul is an old adversary, and a persistent one at that,” says the man who first thought he killed Maul over 30 years ago on Naboo. (Usually, slicing a person in half is enough to kill them, but not when you’re a Sith!)

Ezra insists that he helps Obi-Wan fight Maul because he’s convinced that Obi-Wan is the answer to defeating the Sith. “The holocrons told me!”

“It’s the first I’ve heard of it,” Obi-Wan says.

“The Rebellion needs you. We need you to defeat the Empire,” Ezra says.

“What you need, you already have,” Obi-Wan tells him. “Unfortunately, you seem to be letting it all go.” Obi-Wan explains to Ezra that Maul has tricked him once again. He used the holocrons to lead him to Tatooine. Obi-Wan explains that Maul used Ezra’s drive to do good to help him commit evil. Obi-Wan tells Ezra that he should never have come to Tatooine.

“But the holocrons… they tell the truth,” Ezra says.

“Do they? The truth is often what we make of it. You heard what you wanted to hear, believed what you wanted to believe,” Obi-Wan, the master of manipulating the truth so he doesn’t have to tell a kid that his father is the second-most evil person in the galaxy, tells Ezra. The only person who gained anything by Ezra going to Tatooine is Maul.

Maul the arrives and Obi-Wan tells Ezra to leave. Ezra wants to help, but Obi-Wan says he must “mend this old round.” Ezra agrees to leave, taking Obi-Wan’s Dewback. “See you soon, apprentice,” Maul says as Ezra turns away.

With our main Rebels hero out of the picture, the two old enemies goad each other on. Maul’s anger explodes and he turns on his lightsaber. “Why have you come to this place? Not simply to hide. Oh, you have a purpose here. Perhaps you are protecting something. No. Protecting someone,” Maul says.

At that point, Obi-Wan finally turns on his lightsaber. Maul charges at Ob-Wan, who swings and slices Maul’s double-bladed weapon in half. But it was also a fatal blow, and Maul falls to the ground. Obi-Wan catches him just before he lands.

“Tell me. Is it the Chosen One?” Maul asks.

“He is.”

“He will avenge us,” Maul says as he dies.

Next, Ezra flies Maul’s Mandalorian shuttle to Atollon. When he arrives at the base, he tells his friends that they won’t be hearing from Maul again. He apologizes to Hera and tells her he was wrong. “This is where I’m supposed to be. You’re my family… and we should go home.

The episode ends back on Tatooine. We find Obi-Wan riding a Dewback over to the Lars Homestead. Aunt Beru yells for Luke and we see a young boy running towards the home. As John Williams’ Force theme plays, the credits roll.

What’s Next for the Ghost Crew

“Twin Suns” came to a sudden ending with a quick death for Maul. This probably reflects the fact that both men are much older than even when they last fought in The Clone Wars. Remember, Rebels is now about less than three years before A New Hope at this point. Still, you wish the fight would have lasted at least a little longer than one swing of Obi-Wan’s lightsaber. Then again, it’s clear that his fighting style changed, getting closer to the more stoic style we see in A New Hope.

Season Three of Rebels ends on March 25 with the two-part “Zero Hour.” In the episode, Phoenix Squadron finally attack Lothal, but Grand Admiral Thrawn has plenty of surprises in store for them.

‘Star Wars’ Updates: Han Solo Isn’t His Real Name & More Secrets from Bob Iger

The biggest Star Wars news of the week came from Disney chief Bob Iger, who surprisingly revealed far more secrets about the upcoming movies than anyone would expect. On Thursday, Iger spoke at a University of Southern California tech conference, dropping details on Christopher Miller and Phil Lord’s Han Solo movie and the franchise’s future after Episode IX.

No Changes After Carrie Fisher’s Death

Even though Disney does have plenty of time to make changes to Star Wars: The Last Jedi after Carrie Fisher’s death in December 2016, Iger insisted that there have been no changes made to the film. General Organa, who didn’t have a major role in The Force Awakens, is set to be a big part in The Last Jedi.

“We are not changing 8 to deal with her passing. Her performance remains as it was in 8,” Iger said, reports Variety. “In Rogue One, we created digitally a few characters… We’re not doing that with Carrie.”

That last like is particularly important. After there were rumors that Disney would create a digital version of Fisher for Episode IX, there was a surprising statement from Lucasfilm and Disney.

“We don’t normally respond to fan or press speculation, but there is a rumor circulating that we would like to address,” the January statement said. “We want to assure our fans that Lucasfilm has no plans to digitally recreate Carrie Fisher’s performance as Princess or General Leia Organa.”

Disney famously brought Peter Cushing back to life for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The film also featured a digitally recreated young Princess Leia at the very end.

Han Solo’s Not His Name?

The big stunner from Iger’s talk was that Han Solo might not be Han’s real name. “You’ll also discover how he got his name,” Iger said of the untitled Han Solo movie.

Iger also said that the film will cover Han’s life from the time he’s 18 to 24 years old. That would easily be the longest stretch of time ever covered in a single Star Wars movie. We’ll learn how Han won the Millennium Falcon from Lando Calrissian and how he met Chewbacca. Basically, the film will re-write everything we ever thought we knew about Han’s past in two hours.

The Future of ‘Star Wars’

(Lucasfilm)

After the Han Solo movie and Episode IX, there’s no firm plans on where the star Wars franchise goes next. But as The Hollywood Reporter notes, Iger said they have some plans mapped out for the next decade-and-a-half. When Disney first bought Lucasfilm, all they were imagining was just making a new sequel trilogy.

“We’re starting talk about what could happen after Episode IX. About what could be another decade-and-a-half of Star Wars stories,” Iger said.

As for the Star Wars Land attractions that will open in Disney World and Disney Land in 2019, Iger didn’t say much. He said that there will be a ride that lets visitors ride in the Millennium Falcon “and go for joyrides.”

The Han Solo movie hits theaters on May 25, 2018, while The Last Jedi opens on December 15, 2017. The Last Jedi is being directed by Rian Johnson, while Jurassic World‘s Colin Tervorrow was hired to helm Episode IX. That movie is slated for 2019.

Star Wars Rebels Season finale, Star Wars Rebels Zero Hour, Star Wars Rebels Recap

(Lucasfilm)

This is it. The third season of Star Wars Rebels comes right down to the wire in the two-part season finale titled “Zero Hour.” In the episode, the Phoenix Squadron Rebels tried to head back to Lothal to wrestle the planet away from the Empire. Grand Admiral Thrawn and his goons stand in their way, while the fate of Agent Kallus hangs in the balance. After all, Thrawn knows he’s Fulcrum, the spy providing the Rebels with help.

In the previous episode of Rebels, “Twin Suns,” we finally got that dramatic confrontation between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Maul we were waiting for. It brought an end to Darth Maul’s life. In “Zero Hour,” we go back to the main story line, as the Rebel Alliance continues to grow and is looking for a key victory over the Empire.

Ultimately, Phoenix Squadron didn’t make it to Lothal, but “Zero Hour” was still excellent. The episode played like a mini-Star Wars movie, combining all aspects of the best battles in the films in one, jam-packed hour. It showed the best of what this show can be when it’s focused.

Here’s a look at the action in “Zero Hour.”

SPOILERS FOLLOW

Part I – The Battle Begins

The episode kicks off with Thrawn arriving on Lothal, with some Death Troopers borrowed from Director Krennic by his side. Kallus is watching, using a Mouse Droid on the hanger floor to monitor Thrawn’s meeting with Governor Pryce. Thrawn is having a meeting with Grand Moff Tarkin via hologram, updating him on Phoenix Squadron’s plan to launch a major military offensive to free the planet. Kallus has heard all of this, and Thrawn is likely letting him.

Fulcrum Revealed

After the title, Thrawn continues the meeting. He tells Tarkin that he thinks the Rebels will attack the TIE Defender facility. He also tells Tarkin that the Rebels are gathering multiple cells together to attack. Pryce thinks that’s unprecedented, but Thrawn is sure that it’ll happen. This will give them a chance to wipe out Rebel leadership, although Tarkin wants Thrawn to capture the Rebel leaders. “If we are to crush these Rebels, we have to make examples of their leaders,” Tarkin says. “As you wish, Governor Tarkin,” Thrawn replies.

On Atollon, Ezra tells Kanan that he’s surprised that Hera has brought together so many people to help Lothal. Kanan reminds Ezra that he’s done a lot of work, too. “Hera always saw something special in you, and so did I,” Kanan tells him. Ezra has come so far since season one and Kanan tells Ezra that he thinks he might not even have anything left to teach him. But Ezra tells Kanan that it’s not true, since there’s so much about life – beyond just being a Jedi – that Kanan can teach him.

Hera interrupts them, and reminds them that General Dodonna is bringing the Yavin fleet to help out. (Dodonna was seen in Rogue One and A New Hope.)

Back on Lothal, Kallus finds Ezra’s old home. He’s trying to send a message as Fulcrum, but then Thrawn arrives. The two have a fist-fight. “You have the heart of a rebel,” Thrawn tells Kallus. “I’ll take it as a compliment,” Kallus says. Kallus did get his warning out, but Thrawn uses its trajectory to figure out where the Rebels are.

That trajectory intersects at a point where there is no planet, but Thrawn has surely figured out that his map has been tampered with. Thrawn has studied ancient art from this sector, realizing that there was a planet shown there that wasn’t on the maps – Atollon.

Meanwhile on Atollon, they receive a small portion of Kallus’ message. “Thrawn knows” is all it said. But they have noticed that the Empire has left the Lothal system. Hera and the Rebel leadership connect the dots. “There’s a good bet the Empire knows we’re here,” as Han would say. Hera sends everyone to battle stations, just as the Imperial Star Destroyers arrive at Atollon! They start jamming long-range transmissions, so the Rebels lose contact with Lothal. Then, Hera orders immediate evacuation. Dodonna then leads his fleet to Hyperspace.

As one of the Rebel freighters try to leave, an Interdictor-class Star Destroyer pulls it out of Hyperspace! It looks like the Rebels are really done for now, as the cruiser is then destroyed. Thrawn then arrives and tells Hera that there’s no escape. She tells him that they won’t surrender. But he reminds her that he’s not giving them a chance to surrender. He wants the Rebellion to end today in an utter defeat.

After Thrawn ends the call, Hera devises a plan. Since the Empire still thinks that this is the entirety of the Rebel fleet, they aren’t aware of the other cells. If one ship can sneak through the blockade to get a message out, the Rebels could then out-flank the Empire.

Hera wants Ezra and Kanan to man Maul’s ship to get out, along with Chopper. Kanan can’t leave though, because he needs to warn the Bendu. So now it’s up to Ezra and Chopper alone. Meanwhile, Hera, Zeb and Rex join the fight in the Ghost.

Thrawn begins “playing” with Commander Sato. He tells the Interdictor cruiser to stay back and keep an eye out for an unconventional move from the Rebels. Then, the Ghost begins distracting the TIE Fighters to help clear a path for Ezra.

Meanwhile, on Atollon, Kanan finds Bendu, who doesn’t look happy that war has reached Atollon. “I will have no part of it,” he tells Kanan.

Some Things Are Worth Fighting For

After the break, Kanan tries to convince Bendu to help. “No, I am the one in the middle,” he says. He refuses to take part. Kanan suggests that, perhaps, he was meant to find Bendu. Kanan tells him that he used think that the galaxy would go on without him, until he saw innocents die and knew he had the power to help. “Some things are worth fighting for!”

Back above the planet, the Rebel forces are being stretched to their limit. There’s no enough fighters to protect the capital ships. Thrawn orders the Imperial ships to make escape impossible. Sato then orders everyone on his ship to evacuate, as he tells Ezra that he’s making room for him. It’s clear Sato plans on sacrificing himself to make sure Ezra can escape.

The Interdictor moves to destroy Sato, despite Thrawn’s orders. Constantine would rather have the glory of destroying a Rebel ship than paying attention. Sato then orders his ship to crash right into the Interdictor, giving Ezra a window to leave! Thrawn then orders his ships to go all-in, forcing the Rebels to return to the Atollon surface.

Kanan is still begging Bendu for help. He calls the ancient creature a coward for not helping. Bendu grows annoyed, causing a storm and then disappearing. “I serve the will of the Force,” Bendu says as he leaves.

In Hyperspace, Ezra tells Mon Mothma that they need help. She won’t send anyone because they don’t want to expose the true strength of the Rebellion. Ezra accepts this. Once the message is over, he tells Chopper that he’s sure there’s someone who can help – Sabine.

Part II – Help Arrives

Star Wars Rebels Season finale, Star Wars Rebels Zero Hour, Star Wars Rebels Recap

(Lucasfilm)

Part 2 starts on Atollon, as Hera hopes to use the shield generator Sabine picked up earlier in the season. The shield actually works. Meanwhile, Kanan is rushing back to the base. They need to prepare for Thrawn’s planetary bombardment.

After the title, Thrawn orders the attack to begin, firing a barrage of bolts onto the surface and testing the strength of the shield generator. One blast hits Kanan’s speeder. Ominous music plays, at it looks like the shield will give way. But it was strong enough, and Thrawn stopped firing. Hera checks with Kanan to see if he’s still alive. Thankfully he is, and Hera really wants her “love” to come back.

Ezra finally arrives at Krownest, where Sabine is surprised to see him. He tells her that she’s their only hope. Unfortunately, the Mandalorian Civil War is raging, as Clan Saxon still wants to control Mandalore. Sabine’s mother does not want to help, but she agrees to listen to Ezra’s plea.

At Atollon, Thrawn decides to start a ground assault. Kallus warns him about the Rebels, but he laughs them off. Meanwhile, Hera gets her people to respond to the Imperials on the ground.

At Krownest, Rau thinks the Rebels should just count their losses and try to escape. Sabine’s brother Tristan says they just don’t have the resources to spare. Since “no” is clearly the answer, Ezra decides to leave alone. But then Sabine offers to go with him. Tristan tells Sabine that the mission is impossible. Sabine tells Tristan that she’s seen her friends make the “impossible possible.” Sabine’s mother then agrees to let Sabine take a few troops and ships to help.

Sabine asks Chopper to bring up a hologram of the Interdictor. “Maybe we don’t need an army,” she says.

Mandalorians Swoop In

On Atollon, Rex and Zeb keep an eye on the Imperial walkers, who are moving through a field of explosives. They easily wipe out the nimble AT-DPs, which Thrawn used just to reveal where the Rebels’ defense positions are. He then launches four AT-ATs, which easily move through the explosives and a shield. The A-Wings sweep down to help, but TIEs make it harder for them.

Kanan finally arrives, swinging his lightsaber to destroy one walker. But Zeb, Rex and Kanan are then corned in a dark cave. Thrawn arrives with a squad of Death Troopers and tells the troopers to try to capture Rebel officers, if possible.

Hera and Dodonna are standing at a high position, where they are shooting down at the Imperial troops. Hera tells Dodonna to get available ships off the ground, despite the blockade.

At that point, the Mandalorians arrive! It’s not long before the Imperials realize who they are. They call Hera, and tell them that their plan is to take out the Interictor. Just as that happens though, the shield is destroyed. Then, we see a Walker destroy a Rebel Transport. Thrawn arrives at the base and tells Hera that she will surrender or watch all of her friends be killed, one by one. (Is this still a show for kids?)

You Cannot See, But I Can

With the group cornered, Hera tells Thrawn that she won’t surrender. Meanwhile, the storm on Atollon is clearly getting stronger. Maybe Bendu decided to help after all. “What Jedi devilry is this?” Bendu starts throwing lightening bolts, knocking out the Walkers.

In space, Sabine tells Ezra to focus on the Interdictor. The Mandalorians jump onto the hull of the Imperial ship, as they try to take it out.

Meanwhile, Bendu orders everyone to leave Atollon. While the Rebels rush to leave, the Imperials are staring at the sky. It gives the group enough time to jump into the Ghost, but the escape is not easy. Bendu yells Kanan’s name, then shocks the Ghost. Strangely, Thrawn keeps ordering his troops to fire at the center of the storm. It looks like a hole is clearing, with debris falling from the sky. Thrawn smiles.

Ezra and the Mandalorianns plan on knocking out each of the Interdictor‘s gravity wells. They achieve this and manage to get back onto their ship. Pryce is frustrated, as they now have to keep the Rebels from escaping without their fancy toy. She also orders two troops to throw Kallus out an air lock.

Now, Hera and a few Rebel ships are able to escape, as they dance through the Imperial blockade. Meanwhile, Kallus gets in a pod and tries to escape. He sends the Ghost his coordinates and they manage to pick him up! Pryce can only watch as the Rebels manage to escape once again.

On Atollon, Thrawn finds the wounded Bendu.

“What manner of creature are you?” Thrawn asks.

“One beyond your power to destroy,” Bendu replies.

“It would not seem so,” Thrawn says, pointing a blaster at Bendu’s head.

“You cannot see, but I can,” Bendu says. Bendu tells him that he can see Thrawn’s defeat. Thrawn shoots at him, but the body disappears.

Into The Future

On the Ghost, Sabine tells Hera that she has to go back to Mandalore. Hera says they can’t help because they have to go back to Rebel Command. Kanan and Kallus thank each other for the risks they took to help one another. Kanan heads out to meet Ezra, who looks defeated.

“There’s a future for us. One where we’re all free,” Kanan says. “But it’s up to us to make it happen.”

The remaining fleet heads into Hyperspace, and that’s the end of the third season of Rebels. The show will be back in Fall 2017. After an excellent finale, that will be a long wait. “Zero Hour” could have ended with a Rebel victory, but it didn’t. Our heroes can’t win all the time, especially when the opening crawl to A New Hope tells us that getting the Death Star plans was the Rebellion’s first great success. Sure, the Rebels still haven’t liberated Lothal, but they need something to do in season four. Also, surprisingly no major characters died! Grand Admiral Thrawn gets to fight the Rebels once again.

‘Star Wars Rebels’ Renewed or Cancelled: Will the Ghost Crew Be Back for Season 4?

Star Wars Rebels Season 4, Star Wars Rebels renewed, Star Wars Rebels cancelled

(Lucasfilm)

Now that we’ve seen the season finale of Star Wars Rebels‘ third season, you might be wondering if the show is coming back for a fourth season. The good news is yes, the show has been renewed for season four! The bad news is that it likely won’t start again on Disney XD until Fall 2017. Even worse: it’s been confirmed that Season Four will be the last season of Rebels.

Back on March 3, Disney announced that Rebels was picked up for a fourth season and it’s already in production. More details about the season will be revealed during a panel at Star Wars Celebration in Orlando. The convention runs from April 13 to April 16 at the Orange County Convention Center.

“The team behind Star Wars Rebels delivers epic storytelling that has captivated fans of all ages across the globe,” Marc Buhaj, senior vice president, Programming and general manager, Disney XD, said in a statement in March. “We’re excited to continue sharing the journey of these fan-favorite Rebels with our audience in the fall.”

Rebels began five years before the start of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Star Wars: A New Hope. It centers on Phoenix Squadron, a group of Rebels who originated on Lothal and have joined the growing Rebel Alliance. The stars are the members of the Ghost crew, including Ezra Bridger (Taylor Gray), Kanan Jarrus (Freddie Prinze Jr.), Hera (Vannessa Marshall), Zeb (Steve Blum) and Chopper.

During season three, the team faced the evil Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) and saw Sabine Wren (Tiya Sircar) leave to help lead the Mandalorians against the Empire. Ezra also struggled with a dangerous connection to Darth Maul, who manipulated Ezra into leading him to Obi-Wan Kenobi. The dramatic fight ended with Maul’s death.

In the season finale “Zero Hour,” Phoenix Squadron was left broken and smaller after Thrawn thwarted their plans to liberate Lothal from the Empire. They never even got to leave Atollon, as the Empire ambushed them. After a dramatic fight and some help from Sabine, they managed to escape with their lives.

While there were many less-than-stellar filler episodes and disappointments (particularly “Warhead“) in season three, the great moments were really great. The show will be inching closer to the point where Hera takes part in the Battle of Scarif. We still don’t know who else from the Ghost team lives long enough to join her, so we have to keep tuning into Rebels.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly after Rogue One‘s release, producer David Filoni did confirm that the Sydulla referenced in Rogue One was Hera, so we know she survives the series. He also teased the possibility of re-telling the Battle of Scarif from the Ghost‘s point of view.

“I already have some theories about the story behind it,” Filoni told EW. “I can imagine doing that entire battle from their point of view, whoever is on the Ghost at that point.”

Did Don Rickles Record His ‘Toy Story 4’ Dialogue Before He Died?

Legendary comedian Don Rickles has died at the age of 90. In recent years, one role Rickles was known for was Mr. Potato Head in the Toy Story films. A new sequel, Toy Story 4, is on the way, so had Rickles already recorded his dialogue before he died? Or will Disney have to recast the part?

Unfortunately, Rickles had not recorded his Toy Story 4 dialogue prior to his death, according to The Hollywood Reporter. That’s because Pixar is evidently still rewriting the film, which does not come out until June 2019.

Immediately after the news of Rickles’ death was announced, some fans were hopeful that he might have already recorded his lines for the movie. In 2015, Tom Hanks said in an interview on the Graham Norton show, “We’re now recording Toy Story 4.” However, he later clarified that he’s only recorded a bit of it and that the way this process works is that the actors go in every six months or so to perform more dialogue.

“Now they just show us the stuff that we’re in, and keep everything else top secret,” Hanks said, according to Yahoo. “So I’ve gone along, I’ve worked alone and with Annie Potts – who plays Bo Peep – and the thing is, animated movies take about three and a half years to make. You go in about every six months and do a little bit work.“

It’s also worth noting that the movie was recently delayed a full year, from the summer of 2018 to the summer of 2019, meaning there’s clearly quite a bit of work left to do.

If someone else is brought in to play Mr. Potato Head, this would not be the first time the Toy Story series has had to recast a part due to an actor’s death. Jim Varney, the voice of Slinky Dog in Toy Story and Toy Story 2, died in 2000, and so for Toy Story 3, the part was played by Blake Clark.

Toy Story 4 is scheduled to be released on June 21st, 2019. The plot will revolve around Woody and Buzz Lightyear searching for Bo Peep; in Toy Story 3, it is suggested that she was either sold, donated, or thrown away before the events of the film.

The end of the Jedi could be near. The dramtic first trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi is finally here, just nine months before the movie opens. The trailer was shown at Star Wars Celebration, a convention taking place in Orlando.

The Last Jedi takes place right after the end of The Force Awakens, which ended with Rey (Daisy Ridley) handing Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) the lightsaber he lost at Cloud City back. In The Force Awakens, Rey, R2-D2 and Chewbacca flew to Ahch-To, using the piece of the map BB-8 and Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) brought from Lor-San-Tekka (Max Von Sydow) to find Luke.

Meanwhile, the First Order’s pride took a hit after the destruction of the mega Death Star … er … Starkiller Base. Supreme Leader Snoke (Andy Serkis) probably lost a little faith in Kylo Ren/Ben Solo (Adam Driver), so Kylo will have to prove he’s up to the task of ending the Jedi once and for all.

Now, as we saw in the teaser, Luke does decide to train Rey and the First Order has not been deterred in its quest to take over the galaxy. We also saw Poe’s X-Wing blow up. He clearly goes through a lot of X-Wings.

The Last Jedi also stars John Boyega as Finn, the late Carrie Fisher as General Leia Organa and Lupita Nyong’o as Maz Katana. Fisher completed work on the film before her death in December 2016.

Laura Dern and Oscar-winner Benicio Del Toro play new characters. Looper‘s Rian Johnson wrote and directed the movie.

The new Star Wars film hits theaters on December 15. It will be followed by Episode IX in 2019, and that film will be directed by Jurassic World‘s Colin Treverrow.

Star Wars Episode IX, Star Wars release dates, Indiana Jones release dates

(Lucasfilm)

Just a little over a week after the release of the Star Wars: The Last Jedi teaser trailer, Disney and Lucasfilm are already looking to the future. The studios announced the release date for Colin Treverrow’s Star Wars: Episode IX and for Steven Spielberg’s fifth Indiana Jones movie.

Episode IX will hit theaters on May 24, 2019, making it the first of the the three films in the Star Wars sequel trilogy to hit theaters in May. The date is also a year after the untitled Young Han Solo movie opens on May 25, 2018.

Not much is known about IX, since we haven’t even seen The Last Jedi, which opens on December 15, 2017. We do know that the late Carrie Fisher will not actually be in IX, despite Todd Fisher’s comments to the New York Daily News. Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy confirmed to Good Morning America that we’ll see a lot of Fisher as General Leia in The Last Jedi, but she’s not going to be in IX.

IX will be the end of the Skywalker saga, at least as far as we know now. The film’s story was written by The Last Jedi‘s Rian Johnson. Treverrow and his Jurassic World collaborator Derek Connolly wrote the script.

As for the Indiana Jones film, it will open on July 10, 2020, with Harrison Ford also returning to play the most famous fictional archaeologist ever created. That will be 12 years after the release of 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which was already filled with jokes about Indy’s age when Ford was 65. How many jokes about old age will be in Indy 5, when Ford is 77?

The fifth Indy film will also be the first movie in the franchise made without Paramount Pictures’ participation. In 2013, Disney and Paramount reached a deal to make all the future Indy movies at the Mouse House and the fifth film was announced in March 2016. It was originally scheduled for summer 2019, but Spielberg took on other projects that came first. For example, he’s currently making a movie about the Pentagon Papers with Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep that will hit theaters on December 22 to qualify for the 2018 Oscars.

These two title changes only scratched the surface of the release-date-juggling Disney performed today. The new The Lion King movie has been scheduled for July 19, 2019, A Wrinkle In Time was moved to March 9, 2018 and Ralph Breaks The Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 was moved to November 21, 2018. The animated film Gigantic was delayed by two years and rescheduled for November 25, 2020. Frozen 2 will open on November 27, 2019.

Hackers Hold ‘Pirates of the Caribbean 5’ For Ransom: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

It looks as though Disney is in hot water with regards to their next major release.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney Chief Bob Iger said that hackers claiming to have obtained a Disney movie are demanding a ransom for its return. Iger refused to disclose the name of the movie in question, but it’s obviously a film that is in its completion stage, and is being prepped for release in the next few months. Learn more about the hack and what the demands of these hackers are with these five fast facts.

1. The Movie Is ‘Pirates of the Caribbean 5’

Iger cagily kept the title of the dubious movie private, but the context clues surrounding the ransom enable some speculation as to which upcoming release it could be. The movie is obviously finished with production, and is at least in the final stages of being put together, leading one to assume that it will be released at some point in the next few months.

There was a number of high profile projects slated for release this summer, including Pirates of the Caribbean: Dean Men Tell No Tales this upcoming Friday, Cars 3, which is set for release on June 16th, and Spider-Man: Homecoming, which will come out on July 7th. Ultimately, however, Deadline confirmed that the film is was indeed Pirates of the Caribbean 5: Dead Men Tell No Tales.

2. The Hackers Have Threatened to Leak It Online

According to Iger, Disney the hackers are demanding an undisclosed amount of money be paid on Bitcon, or they will release five minutes of the movie online, and then in 20-minute increments until their demands are met.

In 2016, Netflix was put in a similar situation when 10 episodes of their dramatic series Orange In the New Black was hacked. After the company refused payment, the alleged hackers uploaded the episodes to the illegal download website Pirate Bay, six weeks ahead of its official release on June 9th.

3. Disney Is Refusing To Pay

Despite these seemingly authentic claims, Iger has informed The Hollywood Reporter that Disney does not intend to play ball with the hackers. They have announced that they will not be paying the ransom, and are instead moving forward with federal investigators to recover the movie before it is released online.

Recently, the renowned United Talent Agency was  also caught in a hacking situation. According to The Wrap, UTA suffered a computer hack that “severely disrupted business at the agency on Tuesday, shutting down email, causing meetings to cancel and forcing staff to work on their personal devices.”

4. Disney Has Dealt With Hackers Before

Disney has a lengthy past when it comes to leaked content hitting the internet. In December 2012, the studio fell victim to images and videos from a video game (Disney Infinity) that they had yet to announce to the public. The Disney Infinity Press was later forced to confirm these leaks as legitimate.

Starting with Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 2015, Disney has been more aggressive in terms of handling potential hacks or leaked information. During the screening of The Force Awakens, the studio gave press a set of rules to follow, while delaying the release of tie-in merchandise like books that may give things away and limited the number of people who have access to unreleased films.

5. ‘Pirates 5’ Has Had A Troubled Production

This ransom has only been the latest in what has proven a troubled shoot for Pirates of the Caribbean. The blockbuster franchise has already gone over its $250 budget by a whopping $70 million, according to Daily Mail, while Jack Sparrow himself, Johnny Depp has been caught in a publicized divorce with Amber Heard and a legal investigation into his finances.

The Independent reports that Depp has also been problematic on set, as his penchant for drinking in between takes and being late to the shoot have caused friction between him and the crew. Depp’s former agent Tracey Jacobs claimed that he pleaded with the film’s producer, Jerry Bruckheimer, by saying “You’ve got to do something! You’re the producer.” Bruckheimer has since denied such an exchange ever happening.

Vanessa Hudgens’ Net Worth: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

Since her breakout role in the High School Musical series, Vanessa Hudgens has continued to reinvent herself in the public eye. She has tackled music, film, and the stage with notable success, and tonight, she will be co-hosting the 2017 Billboard Music Awards with another multitalented entertainer, Ludacris.

Given this varied career, it begs the question: how much money has Hudgens made over the years? Learn about her net worth and what she likes to spend her money on with these five fast facts.

1. High School Musical Made Her A Millionaire

According to The Richest, Hudgens has an estimated net worth of $10 million. This was largely in part due to the wildly popular film series High School Musical, which ran from 2006 to 2008. Hudgens earned positive reviews for her performance as Gabriella, the female lead, and the first film became the most successful Disney Channel Original Movie of all time with 7.7 million viewers for its premiere. High School Musical 2 toppled its own record the following year with 17.2 million viewers.

By the time Hudgens appeared in High School Musical 3: Senior Year (the only installment to be released in theaters), she was earning $2 million salary per film. She would take a hiatus from acting after the series concluded, but would subsequently appear in films like Sucker Punch (2011), Spring Breakers (2012), and Gimme Shelter (2013). Journey 2: The Mysterious Island (2012), which earned a worldwide gross of $335 million, is her biggest financial success to date.

2. She Was Sued For $150,000 In 2007

Instagram Photo

In the midst of the High School Musical series, Hudgens was sued over an alleged “breach of contract.” Brian Schell, who helped Hudgens cross over into music, claimed that he advanced costs and expenses for the sake of her recording career, and that he was owed over $150,000. The actress argued that she was a minor (age 16) when she signed a contract with Schell, and therefore too young to be legally binded to it.

The case was dismissed on October 8th, 2008, where papers filed by her lawyer proved that the California Family Code “provides that the contract of a minor is voidable and may be disaffirmed before (age 18) or within a reasonable time afterward.” Hudgens would subsequently terminate her contract with Hollywood Records, and is currently not signed to any major record label.

3. She Paid $1,000 In Damages To the U.S. Forest Service

While California law prevented Hudgens from having to pay $150,000, she was unable to escape Arizona law in 2016 when she was charged with vandalism at Coconino National Forest. According to BBC Newsbeat, Hudgens and her boyfriend Austin Butler carved their initials into the side of a red stone and posted a photo of it on Instagram, where the U.S. Forest Service took note.

Instagram Photo

“She was caught in the act because she publicized it and she’s famous,” said Forest Service worker Brady Smith, “I’m sure there are others who are not famous and publicized it and we’ve never known.” Smith added that Hudgens’ actions created the perception that “it’s ok to deface rock walls.” Hudgens eventually paid $1,000 in restitution. On the bright side, she and Butler are still together after six years, and you can learn more about him in the post below.

4. She Has A Certified Gold Album

In addition to High School Musical, Hudgens has also pursued a career in music. This was sparked by the massive success that she and co-star Zac Efron saw when their duet “Breaking Free” soared to number four on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2006. Later that year, she released her debut album V, which sold 134,000 copies in its first week and was certified gold on the strength of the single “Come Back to Me.” The album also saw surprise success in terms of international sales, as it was certified platinum in Argentina.

Hudgens’ sophomore album, Identified, was released in 2008 and debuted at number 23 on the Billboard 200. It ultimately underperformed in comparison to V, however, as the lead single “Sneakerknight” bottomed out at number 88 on the Billboard Hot 100, and was a factor in Hudgens parting ways with Hollywood Records to return to acting.

5. She Has Multiple Endorsement Deals

In recent years, Hudgens has seen continued notoriety for her appearances in various promotional campaigns. In 2011, she came a spokesperson for the facial cleanser Nuetrogena, as well as the clothing line Candies, where she appeared on numerous commercials and magazine covers.

The most unexpected, and profitable of these endorsements, however, came in 2014 when Hudgens was allegedly paid $15,000 to promote McDonalds at the Coachella Music Festival. Daily Mail reports that the actress received sponsoring by the fast food chain, so long as she share some product-placement selfies with her hubby Austin Butler. McDonalds has since denied paying Hudgens to promote their brand, according to Business Insider.

‘Cars 3’ Spoilers: Is There an End Credits Scene?

Now that Cars 3 is in theaters, you might be wondering if you and your children really have to sit through the credits to see a scene at the end. The answer is yes, you do actually have to stay in your seats if you want to see every part of the movie.

After the credits are over, there is a gag scene that features Mater the tow truck, voiced by comedian Larry The Cable Guy. The scene is an extended version of a joke seen earlier in the film. He sings a song to the tune of “Davy Crockett” while he tries to make his junk sculptures.

This type of end credits scene is consistent with other recent Disney Animated and Pixar features. For example, Disney’s Moana and Pixar’s Finding Dory also included short joke scenes after the credits. Unlike scenes from Marvel movies, they don’t have anything to do with teasing future movies though.

The previous Cars film, 2011’s Cars 2, didn’t have an end credits scene, although there were scenes played during the above-the-title credits after the movie.

The original Cars film was made in 2006 and features several jokes playing on the left side of the screen while the credits roll. There was also a joke scene after the credits with the characters Minny and Van.

Cars 3 is the first Pixar film directed by veteran Pixar artist Brian Fee, who has been working at the studio since the original Cars film was in production. The cast includes Owen Wilson as Lightning McQueen, Larry the Cable Guy as Mater and Bonnie Hunt as Sally. Cristela Alonzo joined the cast as Cruz Ramirez, while Armie Hammer voices Jackson Storm. Nathan Fillion also joined the franchise to voice Sterling. In the film, McQueen tries to get back his former glory after losing a string of races.

The Cars films have been the ugly stepchildren of the Pixar canon, since both Cars and Cars 2 aren’t usually rated among their best films. Cars 2 is also the only Pixar movie not certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. (Somehow The Good Dinosaur even has a fresh rating!) Currently, Cars 3 is getting better reviews than Cars 2, with a 64 percent rating from critics.

‘Aladdin’ Live Action Film Casting Rumors Cause Twitter Upset

Disney is having trouble casting the leads for the live action remake of Aladdin, according to the Hollywood Reporter. On Tuesday, the popular site reported that Disney had originally wanted actor Dev Patel for the lead role of Aladdin, but they haven’t managed to land a deal with him. Now, casting directors are looking into other possible options and may even hire a newcomer to take on the role.

“Finding a male lead in his 20s who can act and sing has proven difficult — especially since the studio wants someone of Middle-Eastern or Indian descent (the animated film is set in the fictional Middle Eastern city of Agrabah),” The Hollywood Reporter writes.

The following actors are supposed frontrunners for the role: Dutch actor Achraf Koutet, Canadian actor Mena Massoud, and American actor George Kosturos (who is of Greek decent). Disney will cast Princess Jasmine after they find their Aladdin, as the two will need to read together to see if they have chemistry. Potential actresses for the role include Naomi Scott, of Power Rangers, and Indian actress Tara Sutaria.

After reading the report, several social media users have voiced their opinions on who they’d like to see take on the role of Aladdin — and who they don’t want to see. There seems to be a lot of debate on the ethnicity of the character, who many feel should be Arab and not Indian. Check out some of the tweets below.

The only name that seems to be a sure thing thus far is Will Smith. The actor is slated to take on the Genie. The role comes with big shoes to fill as the late great Robin Williams was the voice of the original 1992 film.

The live-action version of Aladdin will likely be released in late 2018 or early 2019. Filming is expected to get under way later this year, once a cast is secured.

A Star Wars-themed land is being built at Walt Disney Co.’s Disneyland and Walt Disney World resorts. The video above shows a model of exactly what visitors can expect when they step into the Star Wars-themed land.

The detailed model was unveiled at this year’s 2017 D23 Expo held in Anaheim, CA. Features include a restaurant that resembles the Mos Eisley cantina, X-wings, a replica of the Millennium Falcon and much more, according to MarketWatch.

According to a Disney news release, the 14-acre land is based on a never-before-seen planet. There will be two new rides – one that gives visitors a chance to pilot the Millennium Falcon, and another that puts the rider in the middle of a battle between the First Order and the Resistance.

The Star Wars-themed lands will be located in Disneyland park in Anaheim, CA. and in Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando, FL. Construction at both parks began in 2016 and the parks are expected to open in 2019. Each Star Wars Land is expected to cost about $1 billion to construct, according to MarketWatch.

“This is the most ambitious land we’ve built to date,” said chairman of Disney’s parks division Bob Chapek.

“The land’s story will pull you in,” said Disney Imagineering’s executive creative director Scott Mallwitz. “Depending on where you enter the land from one of three entrances, the visitor’s story will vary. One entrance will be full of First Order troops. Another will feature members of the Resistance.”

Mallwitz told The Orange County Register that roleplaying and engagement will be in play.

“As you move through the areas, you might be recruited to join one side or the other,” said Mallwitz. “Are you a spy? Are you part of the Resistance or willing to join the First Order? It’s up to you. And your role inside of that will be defined by how you choose.”

Disney was originally having trouble casting the lead roles in Aladdin, but the studio has now also announced that British actress Naomi Scott was cast as Princess Jasmine, and Will Smith will play the Genie. Guy Ritchie will direct.

Social media users had urged the studio to choose an Arabic actor.

2. Massoud Appears in the Jack Ryan Series

Massoud doesn’t have a lot of credits to his name on IMDB, which lists “Jack Ryan (2017), Open Heart (2015) and Saving Hope (2012).”

According to EOnline, Jack Ryan is a series about the iconic Tom Clancy character. Massoud was cast “as Tarek Kassar in the new series, which features John Krasinski as Tom Clancy’s famed Jack Ryan,” reported EOnline.

According to IMDB, Massoud is in six episodes of the show.

In June, Deadline announced that Massoud would appear in Strange but True, directed by Rowan Athale. “He joins Amy Ryan, Greg Kinnear, Nick Robinson, Margaret Qualley and Connor Jessup in the film about a young woman who suddenly finds herself pregnant five years after the death of her boyfriend,” Deadline reported.

3. Disney Originally Pursued Better Known Actors for the Aladdin Role & Massoud’s Shirtless Pictures Are Being Praised

Instagram Photo

At first Disney wanted a household name in the role of Aladdin. Daily News reports that Dev Patel, of the movie Lion, and Star Wars actor Riz Ahmed were names that emerged earlier on.

Other lesser-known actors whose names surfaced as possible contenders included Dutch actor Achraf Koutet and American actor George Kosturos.

Disney auditioned almost 2,000 people in a global casting call to no avail, so filming was pushed back a month to August, reported The Daily News.

However, there’s already a buzz over Massoud’s casting. Some of it focuses on his shirtless photos on Instagram. He also posts about fitness and eating healthy on social media.

Judging from reaction to Massoud’s photos and his casting, people will be hearing a lot more about the Canadian actor in the future.

4. The Casting of Naomi Scott Is Causing Some Controversy Online

It’s the casting of Scott as Jasmine that has caused the most controversy online. Her mother is Indian and her father is English. Scott is best known for playing “Pink Ranger” in The Power Rangers.

Some people weren’t happy about the casting decision.

Critics said that Jasmine should be played by a Middle Eastern actress.

Others defended Scott online.

Not everyone was happy, though. One Twitter user wrote, “naomi scott? really? so many beautiful arab girls out there and you choose a girl named NAOMI???”

5. Massoud Says He’s Grateful & Excited to Play Aladdin

Instagram Photo

Playing Aladdin is a big breakthrough for Massoud, and the actor expressed his excitement on Twitter, saying he was grateful and honored to play the character.

On Instagram, Massoud sometimes posts sayings about love. He wrote in one recent post, “It was in that moment, as he looked into her eyes, that he saw a soul so beautfully captivating that he could not but help remember the vastness of the galaxies above. The stars that shined as bright as her two illuminating eyes. Find your inspiration. Use it to drive your passion. Go out and get it. #passion #drive #focus #poetry.”
